BREAKFAST POT PIE

Categories     Breakfast

Time 1h

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 sheet puff pastry (approximately 8x10 inch)
12 eggs
2 minced garlic cloves
2 leeks, cleaned and chopped (discarding leaves)
2 celery ribs (chopped)
1 sprig rosemary (finely chopped)
1 lb bulk breakfast sausage (browned and drained)
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/2 cup parmesan cheese (grated)
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 quart milk
salt and pepper

Steps:

  • Directions:.
  • Melt butter in a large heavy bottomed pot (Dutch oven or stock pot) over medium heat. Add leeks, carrots, celery, garlic, and rosemary and saute until vegetables soften (about 10 min.). Stir in flour and continue to cook until the flour is well incorporated. At this point, stir in the cooked sausage, milk and parmesan cheese. Bring to a boil and then reduce heat and allow to simmer (stirring occasionally) until the gravy thickens (about 10-15 min.). Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Assembly:.
  • Pour thickened gravy into a medium sized casserole dish. Top with scrambled eggs. Cover the casserole dish with the puff pastry dough, crimping the dough around the edge of the dish. Lightly brush the pastry dough with egg wash. Place in preheated oven (400 degrees) and bake for approximately 30 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown.

Tips:

  • For a crispy crust, use a combination of all-purpose flour and butter. The butter will help to create a golden brown crust.
  • For a flaky crust, use a pastry blender or two forks to cut the butter into the flour. This will create small pockets of butter that will steam during baking, resulting in a flaky crust.
  • To prevent the crust from becoming soggy, pre-bake it for 10-15 minutes before adding the filling.
  • Use a variety of vegetables in your pot pie filling. This will add flavor and texture to the dish.
  • For a creamy filling, use a combination of milk and cream. You can also use chicken broth or vegetable broth for a lighter filling.
  • Season the filling to taste with salt, pepper, and other herbs and spices.
  • Bake the pot pie until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  • Let the pot pie cool for 15-20 minutes before serving. This will allow the filling to set and the crust to crisp up.

Conclusion:

Breakfast sausage pot pie is a delicious and easy-to-make meal that is perfect for a hearty breakfast, lunch, or dinner. With its flaky crust, creamy filling, and flavorful sausage, this pot pie is sure to be a hit with everyone at the table. So next time you're looking for a comforting and satisfying meal, give this breakfast sausage pot pie a try.
