Time 1h25m

Number Of Ingredients 12

24 oz (1 large) challah bread, cut into 2" cubes
8 large eggs
2 c milk
2 c heavy cream
1 c sugar
1/2 c brown sugar packed
2 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
2 tsp vanilla extract
6 Tbsp melted butter
1/2 9" apple pie, cut into large chunks
1 jar(s) 19.5 oz, carmel sauce, or make your own!
1 tsp rum

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a 9" x 13" casserole dish; set aside. Place the bread cubes in a large bowl; set aside.
  • 2. Whisk the eggs, milk, heavy cream, both sugars, cinnamon, and vanilla in a medium-size bowl. Beat until well mixed. Pour the egg mixture and melted butter over the bread and gently toss until most of the egg mixture is absorbed by the bread. Add the apple pie chunks and lightly toss to evenly incorporate
  • 3. Loosely cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 35 minutes. Remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean
  • 4. To prepare the sauce, combine the caramel sauce and the rum in a microwave-safe bowl; microwave for 60-90 seconds, or until warm. Serve over the warm bread pudding.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality bread for the best results. Stale bread will work best, as it will absorb more of the custard and result in a more flavorful pudding.
  • For a richer flavor, use a combination of different types of bread, such as white, wheat, and rye.
  • If you don't have any stale bread on hand, you can dry out fresh bread by spreading it out on a baking sheet and baking it in a low oven for 10-15 minutes.
  • Be sure to grease the baking dish well to prevent the pudding from sticking.
  • For a crispy topping, sprinkle the top of the pudding with sugar before baking.
  • Serve the pudding warm or cold, with your favorite toppings, such as whipped cream, ice cream, or fruit.

Conclusion:

Bread pudding apple pie is a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that is perfect for any occasion. With its simple ingredients and customizable toppings, this dish is sure to be a hit with everyone. So next time you're looking for a sweet treat, give bread pudding apple pie a try.
