BRAUNSCHWEIGER SPREAD

Braunschweiger Spread image

I love braunschweiger. I remember my dad used to love a braunschweiger sandwich with lettuce and onion. As a kid I liked them as well and still do. I don't eat it often but every once in a while I want some. Made the spread today. I usually like it on crackers. But sometimes a half sandwich with some milk-sweetened onion slices...

Time 5h15m

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 lb braunchweiger (i prefer koegel's)
12 oz cream cheese (reserve 3 oz. for frosting ball)
6 green onions, chopped fine.
2 Tbsp milk or beer, your choice!
2 Tbsp worcestershire sauce
6 sliced olives or capers, or parsley!! to garnish finished ball.

Steps:

  • 1. Into my Large stand mixer I add the braunschweiger and cream cheese, onions, beer and worcestershire sauce. I mix it very well so there are not big clumps of braunschweiger or cream cheese.
  • 2. I turn it out onto waxed paper or parchment. I form the ball or make smaller ones for gifts to share, at this point. Using the leftover creamcheese for frosting the balls, them garnish them how ever I think is neat. Use capers, green or black olives, parsley...basically anything savory.
  • 3. Place wrapped into the refrigerator for 5 hours to set up!!! You will get loads of compliments and raves for the recipe!!!

Tips:

  • Use fresh, high-quality ingredients. This will make a big difference in the flavor of your braunschweiger appetizer.
  • Don't overcook the braunschweiger. It should be cooked just until it is heated through, otherwise it will become tough and dry.
  • Be creative with your toppings. There are many different ways to top braunschweiger, so experiment until you find a combination that you love. Some popular toppings include cream cheese, chopped pickles, and sliced almonds.
  • Serve braunschweiger appetizer immediately. It is best enjoyed when it is fresh and warm.
