ZEBRA BROWNIES

This is a recipe that comes close to the Zebra Bars served at The Garden Cafe in Omaha.

Provided by Jenni Carroll

Categories     Chocolate

Time 45m

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 c butter, softened
3+1/2 c granulated sugar, divided
1 c cocoa, unsweetened
1+1/2 c flour, divided
3 pkg cream cheese, softened, 8 oz each
9 eggs (yes nine)
2+1/2 tsp vanilla, divided

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350, grease 9x13 pan. For the bottom layer, cream butter and 2 cups of sugar. Add cocoa and 4 eggs. Mix thoroughly on low speed. Add 1 cup flour and 1 tsp vanilla, mixing again. Pour into pan. For the top layer, in a clean bowl mix cream cheese and 1 1/2 cups sugar on high until smooth. Add 5 eggs and mix on low speed. Add 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla, 1/2 cup flour mix again. Pour this over chocolate layer, swirling a bit to give it a zebra effect. Bake 45 - 55 minutes or until center sets.

Tips:

  • Use room temperature eggs and butter for a smoother batter.
  • Don't overmix the batter, as this can result in tough brownies.
  • Bake the brownies in a preheated oven to ensure even cooking.
  • Check the brownies for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center. If it comes out with just a few moist crumbs attached, the brownies are done.
  • Allow the brownies to cool completely before cutting them into bars.
  • For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate or semisweet chocolate chips instead of milk chocolate chips.
  • Add chopped nuts, dried fruit, or other mix-ins to the batter for a customized flavor profile.

Conclusion:

Brandy's Zebra Brownies are a delicious and decadent treat that is perfect for any occasion. With their moist, chewy texture and rich chocolate flavor, these brownies are sure to be a hit with everyone who tries them. The unique zebra pattern adds a touch of fun and whimsy, making them perfect for parties or potlucks. So next time you're looking for a special dessert, give Brandy's Zebra Brownies a try!
