This is the one pie that I always required my mom to make for the holidays. I would always want to cut into it right when it came out of the oven, but I would have to wait until after dinner! It is worth the wait!

Time 1h30m

Yield 1 9inch pie, 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 (9 inch) unbaked pie shells
1 cup whole pecans
1/4 cup brandy
3 eggs
1 cup dark corn syrup
2 tablespoons melted butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 cup sugar
1 tablespoon flour

Steps:

  • In a small bowl place pecans and pour in brandy; let sit 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 400°.
  • In medium bowl combine sugar, eggs, vanilla, corn syrup, salt and flour, mixing well.
  • Stir in melted butterand brandied nuts.
  • Pour into pie shell.
  • Cover crust edges with narrow strips of foil to prevent over browning.
  • Bake at 400° for 15 minutes; reduce temperature to 350° and bake 15 minutes. Remove foil from edges and bake 15 minutes more till puffed and golden.
  • A knife inserted 1/2 way between edge and center will come out clean.
  • Serve warm or cold topped with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

Tips:

  • Use fresh pecans: Fresh pecans have a better flavor and texture than stale ones. If you can, buy them in the shell and crack them yourself just before using them.
  • Toast the pecans: Toasting the pecans brings out their flavor and makes them more fragrant. You can toast them in a skillet over medium heat or in the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 5-7 minutes.
  • Use a good quality brandy: The brandy you use will have a big impact on the flavor of the pie. Choose a brandy that has a smooth, rich flavor. Avoid using a brandy that is too harsh or bitter.
  • Don't overcook the pie: The pie is done when the filling is set and the crust is golden brown. Overcooking the pie will make the filling tough and the crust dry.
  • Let the pie cool before serving: It's important to let the pie cool before serving so that the filling has a chance to set. If you serve the pie too soon, the filling will be runny and difficult to eat.

Conclusion:

Brandy Pecan Pie is a delicious and classic Southern dessert. It's perfect for any occasion, from a special holiday dinner to a casual gathering with friends. With its rich, buttery flavor and pecan-studded filling, this pie is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it. So next time you're looking for a special dessert, give Brandy Pecan Pie a try.
