BOSTON LETTUCE SALAD

Boston Lettuce Salad image

Provided by Dave Lieberman

Time 10m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 9

1/4 cup mayonnaise
1 clove garlic, pressed
1 tablespoon whole grain mustard
1 lemon, juiced
1/4 cup olive oil
Pinch salt
Freshly ground black pepper
1 head Boston lettuce, cleaned
2 tablespoons capers

Steps:

  • Combine the mayonnaise, garlic, mustard, lemon juice, olive oil, salt and pepper in a resealable plastic container. Put the lid on the container and shake until contents are well combined.
  • Break the lettuce into leaves and place on 4 plates. Drizzle with the vinaigrette and sprinkle with capers.

Tips:

  • Choose tender Boston lettuce. Look for heads that are green and crisp, with no signs of wilting or bruising.
  • Wash the lettuce thoroughly. Rinse the lettuce under cold water, then drain it in a colander.
  • Use a sharp knife to shave the Parmesan cheese. This will help to create thin, delicate ribbons of cheese.
  • Don't crowd the lettuce in the bowl. Arrange the lettuce leaves in a single layer so that they have room to breathe.
  • Use a light hand with the lemon juice. Too much lemon juice can overpower the delicate flavor of the lettuce.
  • Serve the salad immediately. Boston lettuce is best enjoyed fresh.

Conclusion:

Boston lettuce with shaved Parmesan is a light and refreshing salad that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. Whether you like your salad simple or dressed up, this recipe is sure to please.
