Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Time 3h30m

Yield 8 to 10 servings

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 pound frozen white bread dough, thawed
2 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
1/2 teaspoon grated lemon zest
Pinch of nutmeg
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
3 tablespoons sliced almonds
1 cup blueberries
Confectioners' sugar, for serving

Steps:

  • Roll and stretch the dough into a 12-inch square on a lightly floured surface. Combine the cream cheese, lemon zest and nutmeg in a bowl. Spread over the dough. Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons each granulated sugar and sliced almonds, then the blueberries, pressing lightly. Cut into 16 small squares and make 4 stacks of 4 squares each.
  • Place each stack on its side in a buttered 9-by-5-inch loaf pan. Gently separate the dough layers so the dough fills the pan. Sprinkle with the remaining 1 tablespoon each granulated sugar and sliced almonds.
  • Cover the loaf loosely with plastic wrap and set aside in a warm place until the dough rises by half its size, 1 to 2 hours.
  • Preheat the oven to 350. Bake the loaf until it's browned and cooked through, 40 to 45 minutes (tent with foil if it's browning too quickly). Let cool 15 minutes in the pan, then loosen the edges with a knife. Remove to a plate and let cool 30 minutes. Dust with confectioners' sugar before serving.

Tips:

  • Properly Measure Ingredients: Use a kitchen scale to accurately measure ingredients, especially flour and liquids, to ensure the correct proportions for a successful bake.
  • Use Fresh Blueberries: Opt for fresh, ripe blueberries for the best flavor and texture in your buckle bread. If frozen blueberries are used, thaw and drain them before incorporating them into the batter.
  • Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients Separately: Mix wet ingredients (such as eggs, milk, butter, and sugar) in one bowl, and dry ingredients (such as flour, baking powder, and baking soda) in another bowl. This helps ensure even distribution and prevents overmixing.
  • Do Not Overmix: Mix the batter just until the ingredients are combined. Overmixing can result in a tough, dense bread texture.
  • Incorporate Blueberries Gently: Fold the blueberries into the batter gently to prevent breaking them. This will help keep them intact and evenly distributed throughout the bread.
  • Generously Grease and Flour the Pan: Ensure that the baking dish is adequately greased and floured to prevent sticking and to promote even baking.
  • Bake at the Correct Temperature: Follow the recipe's recommended baking temperature and time to achieve the desired texture and doneness.
  • Test for Doneness: Insert a toothpick or skewer into the center of the bread. If it comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs attached, the bread is done.
  • Cool Before Serving: Allow the buckle bread to cool for at least 15-20 minutes before serving. This allows the flavors to meld and the bread to set properly.

Conclusion:

With these detailed instructions and helpful tips, you can create a delectable Blueberry Buckle Pull-Apart Bread that will impress your family and friends.
