BLACKBERRY POPPY SEED DRESSING

Blackberry Poppy Seed Dressing image

I love raspberry poppy seed dressing, but due to an allergy I can't use any commercially prepared salad dressings. This is my version of poppy seed dressing. This can be made with either blackberry or raspberry jam. I use Smucker's Simply Fruit.

Time 5m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

1/3 cup seedless blackberry jam (I use Smucker's Simply Fruit)
1/4 cup white vinegar
1 teaspoon lime juice
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon poppy seed
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons oil (I use grapeseed)

Steps:

  • In a blender or food processor, mix all ingredients except oil until well blended.
  • Add oil and process until completely combined.
  • Place in a glass jar and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Tips:

  • Use fresh blackberries for the best flavor. If fresh blackberries are unavailable, frozen blackberries can be used. Thaw them before using.
  • Poppy seeds add a nutty flavor and texture to the dressing. If you don't have poppy seeds, you can substitute sesame seeds or chia seeds.
  • A good quality balsamic vinegar is essential for a flavorful dressing. Look for a balsamic vinegar that is aged for at least 12 years.
  • To make a thicker dressing, add more poppy seeds or chia seeds. To make a thinner dressing, add more olive oil or water.
  • Taste the dressing and adjust the seasonings as needed. You may want to add more salt, pepper, or honey.
  • The dressing can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Conclusion:

Blackberry poppy seed dressing is a versatile dressing that can be used on a variety of salads, from simple green salads to more complex salads with roasted vegetables or grilled meats. It is also a great marinade for chicken, fish, or tofu. The dressing is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. So next time you are looking for a delicious and healthy salad dressing, give blackberry poppy seed dressing a try.
