EASY BISQUICK STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE

Easy Bisquick Strawberry Shortcake image

Last year my kids (ages 8, 6 and 3 at the time) decided they wanted to make a recipe "on their own," so we tried the Strawberry Shortcake recipe on the back of the Bisquick box - worked like a charm! I gave each of them regular table knives (not too sharp) so they could slice the berries, and they measured and mixed the simple ingredients for the shortcake themselves. They felt like total rock stars after we assembled their beautiful (and delicious!) desserts!

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 1/3cups2 1/3 cups bisquick mix
1/2cup1/2 cup milk
3tablespoons3 tablespoons sugar
3tablespoons3 tablespoons butter/margarine, melted
4cups4 cups strawberries
1/2cup1/2 cup sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Melt butter. Mix bisquick with sugar. Add butter and milk. Put in greased pie pan. Bake 20-25 minutes until brown. Cool. Cut in half. Dot with melted butter. Add 3/4 of the strawberries. Put on top layer. Dot with remaining melted butter. Add remaining strawberries.

Tips:

1. Fresh or Frozen Strawberries: - For the best flavor, use fresh, ripe strawberries. - If using frozen strawberries, thaw them completely before using. 2. Butter or Margarine: - Use unsalted butter or margarine for the best flavor. - If you only have salted butter, omit the additional salt in the recipe. 3. Buttermilk: - Buttermilk adds a tangy flavor to the shortcake. If you don't have buttermilk, you can make your own by adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar to 1 cup of regular milk. Let it sit for 5 minutes before using. 4. Mixing the Dough: - Do not overmix the dough. Overmixing will make the shortcake tough. - Mix the dough just until the ingredients are combined. 5. Baking the Shortcake: - Bake the shortcake in a preheated oven. - Bake the shortcake until it is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. 6. Serving the Shortcake: - Serve the shortcake warm or at room temperature. - Top the shortcake with sliced strawberries, whipped cream, or ice cream.
