  • Use a light-colored cake pan to promote even baking and prevent over-browning.
  • For a crunchier topping, use a mixture of brown sugar and oats instead of cinnamon sugar.
  • Add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the batter for a richer flavor.
  • To make a streusel topping, combine 1/2 cup flour, 1/4 cup brown sugar, and 1/4 cup butter in a bowl and mix until crumbly.
  • For a moist and flavorful cake, use buttermilk instead of regular milk.
  • If you don't have buttermilk, you can make your own by adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar to 1 cup of regular milk and letting it sit for 5 minutes.
  • Be sure to preheat your oven before baking the coffee cake. This will help ensure that the cake bakes evenly.
  • Check the cake for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center. If it comes out clean, the cake is done.
