Time 22m

Yield 6 bowls, 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

2 cups baking biscuit mix (recommended -- Bisquick)
2/3 cup whole milk
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
all-purpose flour, for dusting

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.
  • Invert a 6-cup muffin tin and spray the underside with vegetable oil cooking spray.
  • Stir together the biscuit mix, milk and cayenne in a medium mixing bowl.
  • Shape into a ball.
  • Turn out onto floured surface and knead 2 to 4 times.
  • Divide the ball into 6 pieces.
  • Roll each piece into a 6-inch circle.
  • Place 1 dough circle over each muffin cup.
  • Press around the cup to form a bowl shape.
  • Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until lightly browned.
  • Let cool slightly. Remove the biscuit bowls and reserve.

Tips:

  • Choose the Right Biscuit Dough: The type of biscuit dough you use will determine the texture and flavor of your biscuit bowl. For a flaky bowl, use a refrigerated biscuit dough that contains butter or shortening. For a more tender bowl, use a self-rising biscuit dough.
  • Don't Overwork the Dough: Overworking the dough will make it tough. Be gentle when handling the dough and work it just enough to bring it together.
  • Chill the Dough: Chilling the dough before baking will help it keep its shape and prevent it from spreading too much. If you're using a refrigerated biscuit dough, you can chill it for up to 30 minutes before baking. If you're using a self-rising biscuit dough, you can chill it for up to 1 hour before baking.
  • Use a Deep Baking Dish: A deep baking dish will help prevent the biscuit bowl from overflowing. Make sure the dish is at least 2 inches deep.
  • Bake the Biscuit Bowl Until Golden Brown: The biscuit bowl is done baking when it is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. The baking time will vary depending on the type of biscuit dough you use and the size of your baking dish.

Conclusion:

Biscuit bowls are a fun and easy way to serve your favorite soups, stews, and chili. They're also a great way to use up leftover biscuit dough. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can make a delicious and impressive biscuit bowl that will be the star of your next meal.
