Tips:

  • Use fresh shrimp. Fresh shrimp will give your soup the best flavor. If you can't find fresh shrimp, you can use frozen shrimp, but be sure to thaw them completely before using.
  • Don't overcook the shrimp. Shrimp cooks quickly, so be careful not to overcook it. Overcooked shrimp will be tough and rubbery.
  • Use a good quality Cajun seasoning. Cajun seasoning is the key to this soup's flavor, so be sure to use a good quality brand. You can find Cajun seasoning at most grocery stores.
  • Don't be afraid to adjust the spiciness. This soup can be made as spicy or as mild as you like. If you like spicy food, add more Cajun seasoning or cayenne pepper. If you don't like spicy food, omit the cayenne pepper or use less Cajun seasoning.
  • Serve the soup with your favorite toppings. This soup is delicious served with rice, crusty bread, or crackers. You can also add a dollop of sour cream or yogurt for extra richness.
