BIG BOY'S TARTAR SAUCE CLONE / COPYCAT

Big Boy's Tartar Sauce Clone / Copycat image

There is a distinct difference in the sauce used to make Big Boy's Slim Jim sandwich.. the Elias Brother's chain (in the midwest) uses tartar sauce, and Bob's Big Boys out west use a type of 1000-Island.. since moving from Michigan to Florida, I had to figure out how to duplicate that awesome sandwich, and I did it. The key is this tartar sauce, which is kind of silly, because how many ways can you make tartar sauce, lol.. Well one day when I was back in Michigan for a visit, I bought a jar of their famous tartar to bring home with me, and made a simple clone from the ingredients listed on the jar. This is perfect. Now I can have Slim Jims whenever.. Oh! Today was whenever - LOL!!

Time 5m

Yield 1 cup, 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon onion, finely chopped
1 tablespoon dill pickle relish
1 tablespoon pickle juice
1 dash salt
1 dash garlic powder

Steps:

  • Combine mayonnaise, onion, dill pickle relish, pickle juice, salt and garlic powder.
  • Chill.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality mayonnaise. This is the base of the sauce, so it's important to use a good one. Look for a mayonnaise that is made with fresh eggs and oil, and that has a creamy, smooth texture.
  • Use fresh herbs. Fresh herbs, such as dill, parsley, and chives, add a bright, flavorful taste to the sauce. If you don't have fresh herbs on hand, you can use dried herbs, but they won't be as flavorful.
  • Use a good-quality pickle relish. The pickle relish adds a sweet and tangy flavor to the sauce. Look for a relish that is made with high-quality pickles and that has a good balance of sweetness and acidity.
  • Adjust the seasonings to your taste. The recipe provided is a good starting point, but you can adjust the seasonings to your own taste. If you like a more tangy sauce, add more lemon juice. If you like a more spicy sauce, add more cayenne pepper.
  • Serve the sauce immediately or store it in the refrigerator for later use. The sauce will keep for up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator.

Conclusion:

Big Boy's Tartar Sauce is a delicious and versatile sauce that can be used on a variety of dishes, such as fish, chicken, and vegetables. It's easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste. With its creamy, tangy, and flavorful taste, Big Boy's Tartar Sauce is sure to be a hit with your family and friends.
