Time 1h50m

Yield 1 9X13 pan, 16 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 16

6 tablespoons tapioca
6 -7 cups fresh peaches, sliced (or equivalent canned peaches)
1 cup sugar (omit if using sweetened canned peaches)
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
2 cups flour
1 1/2 cups milk
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
cinnamon, to taste
nutmeg, to taste
1/2 cup boiling water

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine tapioca, peaches, sugar (if used), cinnamon and nutmeg.
  • Mix thoroughly.
  • Pour the fruit mixture into a buttered 9" X 13" baking dish.
  • In a bowl mix thoroughly the ingredients for the Cobbler Dough.
  • Spread over the fruit mixture.
  • In a medium mixing bowl, stir together DRY cobbler topping ingredients.
  • Sprinkle evenly over the cobbler dough layer.
  • Then pour the boiling water evenly over the cobbler.
  • (Do Not Stir.) Bake for 1 hour and 20 minutes or until knife inserted comes out clean and top has a golden crust.

Tips:

  • Choose the right peaches: Use ripe, juicy peaches for the best flavor. If your peaches are not ripe, you can ripen them by placing them in a paper bag at room temperature for a few days.
  • Peel the peaches: Peeling the peaches is optional, but it will give your cobbler a smoother texture. To peel the peaches, simply score an X in the bottom of each peach and place them in boiling water for 30 seconds. Then, remove the peaches from the water and place them in a bowl of ice water. The skins will easily peel off.
  • Use a variety of spices: Don't be afraid to experiment with different spices in your cobbler. Some common spices that pair well with peaches include cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves.
  • Don't overcook the cobbler: The cobbler is done when the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling. Overcooking the cobbler will make the crust tough and the filling runny.

Conclusion:

Peach cobbler is a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that is perfect for any occasion. With its sweet and juicy peaches, crispy crust, and warm spices, peach cobbler is sure to be a hit with everyone. So next time you're looking for a dessert that is both delicious and easy to make, give peach cobbler a try. You won't be disappointed!
