Homemade breakfast sausage made with ground pork and seasonings. Great cooked in crumbles for biscuits and gravy, or in patties for breakfast sandwiches or eggs benedict. I like to premake a large batch and freeze the patties, then just take out a few the night before.

Tips:

  • Choose the right meat: A combination of pork and beef is the most common choice for breakfast sausage, but you can also use all pork, all beef, or even turkey. If you're using ground meat, make sure it's fresh and has a fat content of at least 20%.
  • Season the sausage well: Breakfast sausage is typically seasoned with a combination of salt, pepper, sage, and thyme. You can also add other spices, such as garlic powder, onion powder, or red pepper flakes.
  • Mix the sausage thoroughly: Once you've added all of the ingredients to the sausage, mix it thoroughly until it's well combined. This will help to ensure that the sausage is evenly seasoned and cooked.
  • Cook the sausage over medium heat: Breakfast sausage should be cooked over medium heat so that it has time to brown evenly without burning. If you cook the sausage over too high heat, it will brown too quickly and the inside will be raw.
  • Don't overcook the sausage: Breakfast sausage is best when it's cooked through but still slightly pink in the center. If you overcook the sausage, it will become dry and tough.

Conclusion:

Homemade breakfast sausage is a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. Whether you're serving it for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, homemade breakfast sausage is sure to be a hit. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy meal, give this recipe a try. You won't be disappointed!
