GRILLED POTATOES AND ONION

Grilled Potatoes and Onion image

Always cook up a package of potatoes and onions with the rest of your grilled meal! Start early, because it takes about a half an hour to cook. These cook over indirect heat (off to the side), so you can grill other things at the same time.

Tips:

  • Choose the right potatoes: Waxy potatoes like Yukon Gold, Red Bliss, or New Potatoes hold their shape better than starchy potatoes like Russet or Idaho potatoes, making them ideal for grilling.
  • Cut potatoes evenly: This ensures even cooking. If potatoes are cut too large, they may not cook through, and if they are cut too small, they may fall through the grill grates.
  • Parboil potatoes: Parboiling potatoes before grilling reduces cooking time and helps them crisp up. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil, add potatoes, and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork. Drain potatoes and let them cool slightly.
  • Toss potatoes with oil and seasonings: This helps them brown and develop flavor. Use olive oil, avocado oil, or melted butter for best results. Season potatoes with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, or any other desired herbs and spices.
  • Grill potatoes over medium heat: This prevents them from burning. Grill potatoes for 10-15 minutes per side, or until they are tender and slightly charred.
  • Serve potatoes immediately: Grilled potatoes are best enjoyed hot off the grill. Serve them with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ketchup, mustard, or ranch dressing.

Conclusion:

Grilled potatoes are an easy and delicious side dish that can be enjoyed all summer long. With a few simple tips, you can grill perfect potatoes every time. Whether you prefer them crispy or tender, grilled potatoes are sure to be a hit at your next cookout.
