BEST GARLIC DIP

Best Garlic Dip image

I have adapted this from a recipe I found on the German cooking website chefkoch.de and changed it to my liking. I first made this for a New Year's Eve party and eventhough it makes quite a large amount, there was none left at the end. If you can't find Quark, you can substitute with either low-fat sour cream or natural yoghurt or a mix of the two. Have a look in you frozen food department of the grocery store for the frozen herbs, they come in small flat cartons in the UK and Germany. The paprika mentioned is the sweet mild kind, not very hot.

Time 10m

Yield 3 cups

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 1/2 cups Miracle Whip light
1 lb low-fat sour cream or 1 lb natural yoghurt
2 -3 tablespoons frozen mixed herbs (1 oz packet)
3 tablespoons paprika
8 garlic cloves, minced

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients in a medium sized bowl.
  • You might want to add salt and pepper, but usually it doesn't need it.
  • Can be eaten straight away, but the flavours develop much better if you cover and chill it overnight.
  • Enjoy with crackers, crusty bread or with grilled meats.

Tips:

  • Use fresh garlic. Fresh garlic has a stronger flavor and aroma than garlic powder or garlic salt. If you don't have fresh garlic, you can use 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder or 1/4 teaspoon of garlic salt.
  • Roast the garlic. Roasting the garlic mellows the flavor and makes it sweeter. To roast garlic, preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Cut the top off of a head of garlic and drizzle it with olive oil. Wrap the head of garlic in foil and bake it for 45 minutes, or until the garlic is soft and golden brown.
  • Use a food processor or blender. A food processor or blender will help you to create a smooth and creamy dip. If you don't have a food processor or blender, you can mash the garlic and other ingredients together with a fork.
  • Add some herbs and spices. Herbs and spices can add a lot of flavor to garlic dip. Some good options include parsley, cilantro, basil, oregano, thyme, paprika, and chili powder.
  • Serve the dip with your favorite dippers. Garlic dip is great with a variety of dippers, such as pita chips, tortilla chips, crackers, vegetables, and even grilled meats.

Conclusion:

Garlic dip is a delicious and versatile appetizer or snack. It's easy to make and can be customized to your own taste. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a garlic dip that will be the hit of your next party or gathering.
