1 pound dry great Northern beans
8 cups water
4 ounces diced salt pork
1 cup chopped onion
½ cup molasses
⅓ cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon dry mustard
⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper

Steps:

  • The night before, combine the Great Northern Beans and water in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil, and cook for 1 1/2 hours. Pour beans and their liquid into a bowl, cover and refrigerate overnight.
  • In the morning, drain off liquid, reserving 1 cup. Pour beans and the reserved liquid into the crock of a slow cooker. Stir in the salt pork, onion, molasses, brown sugar, mustard and pepper. Cover, and cook on Low for 12 to 14 hours. Stir before serving.

1 (16 ounce) package dried navy beans
4 cups water, or more as needed
½ cup molasses
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon salt
¾ teaspoon dry mustard
⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper
¼ pound salt pork, thinly sliced
1 onion, sliced

Steps:

  • Place the navy beans into a large container and cover with several inches of cool water; let stand 8 hours to overnight. Drain and transfer beans to a pot; add enough water to cover beans.
  • Bring water to a boil, reduce heat, cover pot, and simmer until beans are slightly tender, about 1 hour.
  • Mix 4 cups water, molasses, brown sugar, salt, mustard, and pepper together in a bowl until smooth.
  • Mix beans, salt pork, and onion together in a slow cooker. Add molasses mixture and more water to cover beans if needed; stir well.
  • Cook on Low for 8 to 10 hours.

These are a hit at my house for even those that aren't fans of baked beans. I think it's the bacon that adds the x-tra somethin somethin. Or maybe the french fried onions. This can also be done in the oven and so reduce the baking time to 1 1/2 hrs.

48 ounces randall's navy beans
1 1/4 cups sugar
1/2 tablespoon vinegar
1/2 teaspoon brown mustard
1 lb bacon
1/4 cup ketchup
1 (6 ounce) can French-fried onions

Steps:

  • Fry bacon until it's almost done.
  • Mix all ingredients together using only 3/4 of the can of french fried onions.
  • Cut up the bacon into bite size pieces.
  • Add bacon.
  • Place crock pot on low for 6 hours
  • 1/2 hours before it's done place remaining onions on top.

Easy,delicious old fashioned baked beans. No need to soak overnight. Cook on low in the crockpot overnight and they come out perfect everytime. Only add water if needed otherwise they will come out too wet. The longer they cook the beter they taste.

1 lb white beans (great northern)
8 ounces salt pork (sliced)
1 medium onion (chopped)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup molasses
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
5 -6 cups water

Steps:

  • In crockpot, stir together, beans, chopped onion, sugar, molasses and mustard. Add salt pork and 5 cups water.
  • Cook on high for 4 hours, change to low and cook until dark brown and beans are tender. Stir occasionally. Add water if the beans begin to look dry and are still uncooked. I cook overnight on low and the beans are usually done in the morning. I don't remember the exact amount of salt pork but I usually buy the square package of Hormel.

  • Anastasia's Best-Ever Baked Beans:.
  • • 5 cans of pork and beans (15 ounce cans - VanCamps's Pork and Beans or similar).
  • • 2 medium or 1 large onion, chopped (yellow or sweet onion, not vidalia).
  • • 1 to 2 tablespoons butter (for sauteing onions).
  • • 3/4 cup ketchup.
  • • 1/2 cup molasses.
  • • 3 tablespoons yellow mustard.
  • • 1/4 to 1/2 cup brown sugar (use less for less sweetness).
  • • 6 to 8 slices uncooked bacon, each cut in half or thirds.
  • Preheat oven to 325* F. degrees f. Spray a 9x13 baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Saute onions over medium to medium-high heat in butter until onions are tender and translucent.
  • Mix beans, sauteed onions, ketchup, mustard, molasses and brown sugar until blended well. Pour in prepared baking dish. Top with uncooked bacon in single layer (see photo above).
