BERRY STRATA

I was watching Giada today on the food network and she whipped this up. It looked very good and pretty easy. On the episode she used only ricotta cheese and mixed berries and she warmed up the honey with 2 tbsp of butter. As I don't care for cooked strawberries I have changed the recipe to refect that. You can also use any bread that suits your fancy just make sure it is day old or at least a bit on the dry side.

I wanted a simple way to use strawberries and blueberries in a breakfast recipe, so I created this strata. It's not an overly sweet recipe so I like to sprinkle it with sugar and serve it with sweetened whipped cream.-Diane Denny, Jacksonville, Florida

Tips:

  • For the best results, use fresh berries. If you're using frozen berries, be sure to thaw them completely before using.
  • If you don't have a baking dish, you can use a 9x13 inch glass baking pan.
  • You can use any type of milk you like in this recipe. Whole milk will give the strata a richer flavor, while skim milk will make it lighter.
  • If you don't have any spices on hand, you can simply omit them. The strata will still be delicious.
  • Be sure to grease the baking dish before you add the ingredients. This will help prevent the strata from sticking.
  • Bake the strata for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let the strata cool for at least 15 minutes before serving. This will allow it to set and make it easier to slice.

Conclusion:

Berry strata is a delicious and easy-to-make breakfast casserole that is perfect for special occasions or a lazy weekend brunch. It's also a great way to use up leftover berries. With its simple ingredients and delicious flavor, berry strata is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it.
