BEER GOLDEN GLAZED HAM

Categories     Pork     Bake

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 15 pound precooked ham with bone
1 pound dark brown sugar
4 12 ounce cans of beer
1/4 c honey
1/4 c Dijon mustard
2 c packed brown sugar
2 c Bourbon (Jim Beam)

Steps:

  • Place ham in deep roasting pan. Firmly pat 1 pound brown sugar on all sides of ham. Pour beer around ham. Cover and bake at 325 degrees for 3 3/4 hours (15 minutes per pound). One hour before end of baking time, pour off all but about 1 1/2 inches of beer. In small sauce pan, combine honey, mustard, 2 cups brown sugar, and bourbon. Heat until sugar melts. Baste ham every 10 minutes with beer mixture from bottom of pan and then the boubon glaze. Use all the bourbon glaze before removing ham from oven. Slice thinly and serve with sauce remaining in pan.

Tips:

  • Choose the right ham: Select a fully cooked ham with a bone for added flavor. Bone-in hams are typically more moist and flavorful than boneless hams.
  • Prepare the ham: Remove the ham from the packaging and rinse it under cold water. Pat the ham dry with paper towels.
  • Score the ham: Use a sharp knife to score the ham in a diamond pattern. Scoring the ham helps the glaze penetrate the meat and results in a more flavorful ham.
  • Make the beer glaze: In a saucepan, combine brown sugar, honey, beer, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, and onion powder. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes, or until the glaze has thickened.
  • Glaze the ham: Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C). Place the ham in a roasting pan and pour the beer glaze over the ham. Cover the ham with foil and bake for 1 hour, or until the ham is heated through.
  • Serve the ham: Remove the ham from the oven and let it rest for 15 minutes before carving. Serve the ham with your favorite sides, such as mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or a green salad.

Conclusion:

Beer-glazed ham is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for special occasions or everyday meals. The beer glaze adds a sweet and savory flavor to the ham, and the ham is sure to be a hit with your family and friends. So next time you're looking for a delicious and impressive dish to serve, give beer-glazed ham a try!
