HOT DOGS COOKED IN BEER

Hot Dogs Cooked in Beer image

Be it vegan, turkey, beef, pork, sausage links give it a try. For those that don't like the Chard dogs with grill marks. Or you can pre simmer them and then grill them. I myself like grilled but my Dad prefers boiled dogs so I'm posting for him a kicked up version using beer in place of water.

CHILI-BEER HOT DOGS AND BRATWURST image

Categories     Beef     Lunch

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 bottle(s) (12-ounce) beer, preferably brown ale or stout
1 large spanish onion, sliced
3 clove(s) garlic, smashed
1/2 bunch(es) (small) cilantro
1 tablespoon(s) chili powder
1 small lime, halved
8 beef hot dogs or fully-cooked bratwursts
8 top-split hot dog buns
Toppings: corn relish, pickle relish, onions in sauce, sauerkraut

Steps:

  • Pour beer into a 5-quart Dutch oven. Add onion, garlic, cilantro and chili powder; squeeze the lime into the pot and add lime halves to mixture. Bring to a boil. Pierce hot dogs or bratwurst in several places with a fork. Add to pot and gently boil 10 minutes, until sausages are plumped. Remove pot from heat and cover. Let sausages marinate 20 minutes at room temperature or up to 3 hours in the refrigerator. Prepare a grill with a medium-high heat. Remove sausages from marinade. Grill 5 minutes, turning frequently until crisped. Toasts buns on grill. Place sausages in buns. Serve with desired toppings.

Tips:

  • Choose the right sausage: Different sausages will impart different flavors to your beer dogs. Some good choices include bratwurst, Italian sausage, and kielbasa. Be sure to use fresh, high-quality sausage so that your beer dogs turn out flavorful and juicy.
  • Preheat your grill: A hot grill will help to sear your beer dogs and give them a nice, caramelized exterior. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat before cooking the beer dogs.
  • Cook over indirect heat: If you're using a charcoal grill, bank the coals to one side of the grill. If you're using a gas grill, turn off the burner on one side. This will create a cool zone where you can cook the beer dogs without them burning.
  • Be patient: Beer dogs take a little longer to cook than regular hot dogs, so be patient and don't rush the process. Cook the beer dogs for at least 10 minutes, or until they are cooked through.
  • Get creative with toppings: There are endless Möglichkeiten for toppings for beer dogs. Some popular choices include sauerkraut, relish, mustard, and onions. You can also get creative and try different toppings, such as guacamole, bacon, or cheese.

Conclusion:

Beer dogs are a delicious and easy-to-make summer meal. They're perfect for parties, picnics, or a casual weeknight dinner. Experiment with different sausages, toppings, and cooking methods to find your favorite beer dog recipe. The most important thing to remember is to have fun and enjoy the process!
