WASABI BEEF

Wasabi Beef image

i am one of those who love Japanese-inspired dishes and came up with this healthy, simple dish. The beef can be substituted by chicken too, and still tastes splendid! suitable for all health conscious eaters and those who just love the taste of Japanese foods.

Time 25m

Yield 2 portions, 2 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 lb beef steak
2 tablespoons miso (any type will do)
1 tablespoon wasabi
sesame oil
ground black pepper
soy sauce (optional)
sesame seeds (optional)

Steps:

  • Mix together the Miso paste, Wasabi and about 1 tablespoon of sesame oil.
  • Rub this mixture into the beef thoroughly. Then wrap the beef up in clingfilm and let the flavour seep into the meat for 10 minutes. Meanwhile add 1 tablespoon of soy sauce to the dish you used to make the sauce, just to use up any miso or wasabi still clinging onto the dish.
  • To cook the beef, use some sesame oil or butter or margarine (doesnt really matter here) and wait for the pan to get hot before slapping the steak on.
  • Immediately pour the soy sauce (or simply use a spoon of water) onto the pan and cover the lid. Allow the beef to cook according to your preferred taste (fully cooked or half rare).
  • When the beef is nearly done, remove the lid and sprinkle some black pepper into the steak. Allow the beef to 'burn' slightly to give it a little bit of a BBQ feel.
  • Serve with noodle salad or any Asian dishes. It tastes lovely if you drizzle a little more sesame oil over the top and sprinkle some white/black sesame seeds.

KOBE BEEF WITH DIPPING SAUCE AND HIBACHI SLAW

Kobe Beef with Dipping Sauce and Hibachi Slaw image

Categories     main-dish

Time 43m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 18

2 tablespoons wasabi powder
1 1/2 tablespoons water
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1-ounce chili sauce (recommended: Mae Ploy Sweet Chili Sauce)
3 1/4 ounces soy sauce
1-ounce white vinegar
1 teaspoon lime juice
1 3/4 ounces canola oil
1/2-ounce chopped green onion
2 ounces carrot, peeled and cut into matchsticks
2 ounces daikon root, cut into matchsticks
2 ounces red pepper, cut into matchsticks
1-ounce fresh chives, cut into matchsticks
1-ounce pea sprout, cut into matchstick size
1 tablespoon Dipping Sauce
1/2 pound Kobe beef, see Cook's Note*
Dipping Sauce, recipe follows
Hibachi Slaw, recipe follows

Steps:

  • For the Dipping Sauce:
  • Combine wasabi and water to make a paste. Using a blender or a mixing bowl with a whisk Add remaining ingredients except oil and onion, blend until well combined or whisk well. Emulsify in oil by pouring it slowly into the blender while running or mixing bowl while mixing. Stir in onion and set aside.
  • For the Hibachi Slaw:
  • Using a mandoline or with a knife, cut the carrots and daikon to a matchstick size. Using your knife, cut red pepper into the same shape as the daikon and carrot. Cut the chives in the same manner. Toss all together with pea sprouts. Season with salt and pepper and 1 tablespoon dipping sauce.
  • For the Beef:
  • In the restaurant, we serve raw slices of kobe beef with a hibachi. The customers then cook the beef at the table on a hot stone. For home use, I suggest cutting the beef tenderloin into quarters lengthwise. Season them well with salt and pepper, to taste. Then quickly sear them on all sides in a very hot saute pan with cooking oil. Let the meat rest for 2 to 3 minutes. Then slice across the loin into very thin slices. Enjoy with the Dipping Sauce and Slaw.

BEEF & WASABI APPETIZER

Beef & Wasabi Appetizer image

An easy, but fancy looking :-) appetizer that will impress. Can be made ahead. Use as finger food or serve as a 1st course during a dinner party. Can be served hot or cold. I like flank steak because the slices tend to be longer and are easier to work with. Aside from flank steak being my favourite steak...

Categories     Beef     Garlic     Roast     Super Bowl     Kid-Friendly     Back to School     Wasabi     Beef Tenderloin     Fall     Bon Appétit     Small Plates

Yield Makes 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
2 large garlic cloves, pressed
1 tablespoon prepared wasabi
1 2 3/4- to 3-pound beef tenderloin, tied
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon kosher salt
1 tablespoon sugar

Steps:

  • Make Wasabi-Garlic Cream
  • Combine cream and garlic in saucepan and cook over medium-high heat until reduced to 1 cup, stirring frequently, about 15 minutes. Whisk in wasabi and cook for 1 minute, remove from heat. Season to taste with salt.
  • Make Tenderloin
  • Coat beef with olive oil.
  • mix sugar and salt together. Rub this mixture over top and sides(not bottom) of beef. Place on rimmed baking sheet and place in preheated oven. Be sure bottom is not rubbed.
  • Roast until thermometer inserted into center registers 120°F for rare. Remove from oven; let rest 10 minutes. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Remove strings. Reheat sauce over medium heat. Cut beef into thick slices; serve with sauce.

Tips:

  • For the best flavor, use high-quality beef that is well-marbled.
  • Be sure to thinly slice the beef against the grain for the most tender results.
  • If you don't have a meat slicer, you can freeze the beef for about 30 minutes before slicing it. This will make it easier to get thin, even slices.
  • Use a sharp knife to slice the beef. A dull knife will tear the meat and make it tough.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan when cooking the beef. This will prevent it from cooking evenly.
  • Cook the beef over medium-high heat until it is browned on both sides and cooked to your desired doneness.
  • Let the beef rest for a few minutes before slicing it. This will help the juices redistribute and make the beef more tender.
  • Serve the beef wasabi appetizer immediately, while it is still warm.
  • Garnish the appetizer with scallions, sesame seeds, or microgreens for a pop of color and flavor.

Conclusion:

Beef wasabi appetizer is an easy and delicious dish that is perfect for any occasion. It is made with thinly sliced beef that is seared until tender and then topped with a spicy wasabi sauce. The appetizer can be served on its own or with rice or noodles. If you are looking for a quick and easy appetizer that is sure to impress your guests, beef wasabi appetizer is the perfect choice.
