Categories     appetizer

Time 50m

Yield 16 turnovers

Number Of Ingredients 11

1/2 pound ricotta cheese
2 ounces grated provolone cheese
2 ounces grated pecorino cheese
1 large egg
2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
1 sheet thawed frozen puff pastry
Melted butter, for brushing
Sesame seeds, for sprinkling
Marinara sauce, warmed, for serving

Steps:

  • Preheat an air fryer to 375˚ F. Combine the ricotta, provolone, pecorino, egg, basil, salt and pepper in a medium bowl; mix well.
  • Roll out the puff pastry just to remove the creases; slice into 16 equal squares. Dollop a tablespoonful of the cheese mixture onto a pastry square. Lightly brush the edges with melted butter, fold in half to form a triangle and pinch closed; crimp the edges with a fork. Repeat with the remaining pastry squares, refrigerating the finished turnovers on a parchment-lined pan while you form the rest.
  • Brush the tops of the turnovers with more melted butter and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Place 5 or 6 turnovers in the air fryer basket and cook until puffed and golden brown, 8 to 10 minutes. Repeat with the remaining turnovers. Serve with warm marinara sauce.

Tips:

  • Choose high-quality ingredients: Use fresh, flavorful beef and cheese for the best results. Look for a lean cut of beef, such as sirloin or flank steak, and a sharp cheddar cheese that melts well.
  • Season the beef well: Don't be afraid to season the beef generously with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. This will help to enhance the flavor of the filling.
  • Cook the beef until it is tender: Cook the beef over medium heat until it is cooked through but still tender. Overcooking the beef will make it tough and chewy.
  • Use a good quality puff pastry: The puff pastry is what gives these turnovers their flaky, buttery crust. Be sure to use a brand that you trust and that is made with real butter.
  • Seal the turnovers well: Make sure to seal the turnovers tightly before baking them. This will prevent the filling from leaking out and the turnovers from falling apart.
  • Bake the turnovers until they are golden brown: Bake the turnovers in a preheated oven until they are golden brown and the filling is bubbly. This usually takes about 20 minutes.

Conclusion:

Beef and cheese turnovers are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or main course. With a flaky, buttery crust and a savory filling of seasoned beef and melted cheese, these turnovers are sure to be a hit with everyone who tries them. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy meal, give these beef and cheese turnovers a try. You won't be disappointed!
