GROUND BEEF AND CABBAGE

Ground Beef and Cabbage image

My mother was a country cook, plain and simple. But as I have traveled and worked and experienced foods from around the world, I look back and realize that many of the dishes she prepared, while simple, were perfect for that moment. Sometimes we have to put emotion and love in a dish to make it extra-special. The dish I am going to give you today is one like that. Simple and easy, yet full of love and goodness. My mother used to serve this with corn on the cob and cornbread. Very inexpensive and very good as well. Enjoy an Ozark memory...

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of beef: Chuck roast, brisket, or short ribs are all good options for this dish. They are tough cuts of meat that will become tender when braised in the slow cooker.
  • Brown the beef before braising: Browning the beef in a pan over medium-high heat before adding it to the slow cooker will help to develop flavor and color.
  • Use a variety of vegetables: In addition to cabbage, you can also add other vegetables to this dish, such as carrots, potatoes, celery, or onions. This will make the dish more flavorful and nutritious.
  • Season the dish well: Be sure to season the dish with salt, pepper, and other herbs and spices to taste. This will help to enhance the flavor of the beef and vegetables.
  • Cook the dish on low heat for a long time: The key to making this dish tender is to cook it on low heat for a long time. This will allow the beef to break down and become fall-apart tender.

Conclusion:

Beef and cabbage is a classic comfort food dish that is easy to make in a slow cooker. Simply brown the beef, add it to the slow cooker with the cabbage and other vegetables, and cook on low heat for 8-10 hours. The result is a tender, flavorful dish that is perfect for a cold winter day.
