MONGOLIAN BEEF AND BOK CHOY

Mongolian Beef and Bok Choy image

This recipe was sent to me buy a good friend and I have no idea where he got it. But I tried it once and I've never eaten at a Chinese restaurant since. Let me describe Bok Choy; it's a Chinese plant that really resembles a leek but it's related to a cabbage. You could use cabbage for this if you can't find it and it's still fabulous.

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

3 cups flank steaks, thinly sliced against the grain
1 cup shiitake mushroom, thinly sliced
1 cup bok choy
1 tablespoon oyster sauce
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/8 cup fresh ginger
2 cloves finely chopped garlic
1/2 tablespoon sesame oil
1/4 cup light soy sauce
1/3 cup chicken broth

Steps:

  • Marinate the flank steak in the oyster sauce and 1/4 cup vegetable oil.
  • In a separate bowl mix soy sauce, sesame oil, and chicken broth.
  • Sauté garlic and ginger in very hot wok.
  • Add flank steak and sauté for 2 minutes.
  • Add bok choy and sauté for 2 minutes.
  • Add sauce and cook for 30 seconds.

Tips:

  • Mise en place: Before you start cooking, make sure you have all of your ingredients and tools ready. This will help you stay organized and prevent any scrambling.
  • Choose the right cut of beef: For this recipe, you'll want to use a tender cut of beef that will cook quickly. Some good options include flank steak, sirloin steak, or tenderloin steak.
  • Marinate the beef: Marinating the beef will help to tenderize it and add flavor. You can use a simple marinade made with soy sauce, rice wine, garlic, and ginger.
  • Cook the beef over high heat: This will help to sear the beef and lock in the juices. Be sure to cook the beef until it is cooked to your desired doneness.
  • Add the bok choy at the end: Bok choy cooks quickly, so you don't want to add it to the pan until the beef is almost cooked through. This will help to prevent the bok choy from becoming overcooked.
  • Serve immediately: Beef and bok choy is best served immediately after it is cooked. This will ensure that the beef is tender and juicy and the bok choy is still crisp.

Conclusion:

Beef and bok choy is a quick, easy, and delicious meal that is perfect for a weeknight dinner. The beef is tender and flavorful, and the bok choy is crisp and refreshing. This dish is also a good source of protein and vegetables. If you're looking for a healthy and satisfying meal, beef and bok choy is a great option.
