RESTAURANT-STYLE SALSA

Food Network's Ree Drummond shares her recipe for homemade restaurant-style salsa that the whole family will love!

Provided by Ree Drummond : Food Network

Categories     condiment

Time 1h15m

Yield 12 servings

Number Of Ingredients 10

Two 10-ounce cans diced tomatoes and green chiles, such as Rotel
One 28-ounce can whole tomatoes with juice
1/2 cup fresh cilantro leaves (or more to taste!)
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 clove garlic, minced
1 whole jalapeno, quartered and sliced thin, with seeds and membrane
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon sugar
1/2 whole lime, juiced

Steps:

  • Combine the diced tomatoes, whole tomatoes, cilantro, onions, garlic, jalapeno, cumin, salt, sugar and lime juice in a blender or food processor. (This is a very large batch. I recommend using a 12-cup food processor, or you can process the ingredients in batches and then mix everything together in a large mixing bowl.)
  • Pulse until you get the salsa to the consistency you'd like. I do about 10 to 15 pulses. Test seasonings with a tortilla chip and adjust as needed.
  • Refrigerate the salsa for at least an hour before serving.

Another salsa recipe called for a fresh jalapeno (I think), but I had green chiles in a can on hand. This salsa tastes great, so I'm sticking with it!

Tips:

  • Choose ripe, fresh tomatoes: The quality of the tomatoes will greatly impact the flavor of your salsa. Look for tomatoes that are deep red and free of blemishes.
  • Use a variety of tomatoes: Roma tomatoes are a good choice for salsa because they are meaty and have a low water content. However, you can also use cherry tomatoes, grape tomatoes, or heirloom tomatoes. Using a variety of tomatoes will give your salsa a more complex flavor.
  • Roast the tomatoes: Roasting the tomatoes will bring out their natural sweetness and flavor. You can roast the tomatoes in the oven or on a grill.
  • Use fresh herbs: Fresh herbs, such as cilantro, basil, and oregano, will add a bright, flavorful note to your salsa. Be sure to chop the herbs finely so that they distribute evenly throughout the salsa.
  • Add some heat: If you like spicy salsa, you can add some chili peppers or cayenne pepper. Start with a small amount and add more to taste.
  • Let the salsa rest: After you have made the salsa, let it rest for at least 30 minutes before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld together.

Conclusion:

Bedouin salsa is a delicious and versatile condiment that can be used to add flavor to a variety of dishes. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. Whether you like it mild, medium, or hot, Bedouin salsa is sure to please everyone at your table.
