Crispy and flavorful baked chicken wings are so easy to prepare and you don't have to bother with all the grease from frying!

Categories     Appetizer

Time 50m

Number Of Ingredients 9

4 pounds chicken wings (, halved at joints, wingtips discarded)
2 Tablespoons baking powder (*aluminum free)
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cracker black pepper
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/3 cup Frank's Wings Hot Sauce
1 1/2 cups light brown sugar
1 Tablespoon water

Steps:

  • Adjust your oven rack to the upper-middle position. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
  • Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire rack (I use a cooling rack) on top. Spray the rack with non-stick spray.
  • Use paper towels to pat the wings dry and place them in a large bowl. It's important to dry them REALLY well!
  • Combine the salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and baking powder in a small bowl. Then sprinkle the seasoning over the wings, tossing to evenly coat.
  • Arrange wings, skin side up, in single layer on prepared wire rack.
  • Bake on the upper middle oven rack, turning every 20 minutes until wings are crispy and browned. The total cook time will depend on the size of the wings but may take up to 1 hour.
  • Remove from oven and let stand for 5 minutes. Transfer wings to bowl and toss with sauce.

BAT WINGS (BAKED CHICKEN WINGS)

Bat Wings (Baked Chicken Wings) image

These are kind of like baked hot wings. I love to make the sauce, although, sometimes I get really lazy and use Buffalo Wild Wings sauces  Also, for the hot sauce, I use tabasco or Frank's Hot Wing Sauce. Sometimes, depending on how much I want my mouth on fire, I add 1/8 -1/4 teaspoon of cayenne! Serving size depends on if this is for an appetizer or a main meal. Prep time does not include marinade time (I make in the morning let it marinate all day and then cook at night)

Time 1h20m

Number Of Ingredients 4

4 lb / 2 kg chicken wings (, cut into wingettes and drumettes (Note 1))
5 teaspoons baking powder (NOT BAKING SODA / BI-CARB SODA!!)
3/4 teaspoon salt
Oil spray

Steps:

  • If you are organised enough, uncover the chicken wings and leave them in the fridge for a few hours to dry out. Otherwise, use a paper towel to pat the wings dry.
  • Adjust oven racks to upper-middle and lower-middle positions.
  • Preheat oven to 250F/120C (all oven types - standard/convection/fan).
  • Line a baking tray with foil, then place a rack (like a cooling rack) on the foil. Spray the rack with oil spray.
  • Place wings in a large bowl or in a ziplock bag. Add the baking powder and salt, then toss to coat evenly.
  • Place the wings on the baking tray in a single layer with the skin side up. They should just fit snugly. They will shrink when they cook because the fat renders out so don't worry if they look too snug.
  • Place wings on the lower middle oven rack and bake for 30 minutes.
  • Move wings up to the upper middle rack and increase the oven temperature to 425F/220C. Bake for 40 - 50 minutes, rotating the tray halfway through.
  • Remove baking tray from the oven and let it stand for 5 minutes.
  • Toss wings in sauce of choice or serve it on the side to dip / drizzle on the wings, then serve.

BAT WINGS

Bat Wings image

Follow this simple recipe to give chicken wings a spooky touch for Halloween. The meat is tossed with a combination of soy sauce, oyster sauce, black bean sauce, brown sugar, and black food coloring. Try one...if you dare.

Provided by Martha Stewart

Categories     Food & Cooking     Appetizers     Finger Food Recipes

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
1/4 cup light-brown sugar
1/4 cup black bean sauce
1 teaspoon black paste food coloring
20 large whole chicken wings with tips

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, black bean sauce, and food coloring. Set 1/3 cup soy sauce mixture aside.
  • Place chicken wings in a large resealable plastic bag and pour remaining soy sauce mixture over wings; seal bag. Turn bag until wings are well coated. Refrigerate, and let marinate for at least 2 hours and up to overnight, turning chicken wings every 30 minutes to coat.
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper or a nonstick baking mat; set aside.
  • Remove wings from marinade, shaking off any excess; discard marinade. Place them in an even layer on prepared baking sheets, arranging them so that wings are extended. Bake until juices run clear, 20 to 25 minutes, brushing with reserved soy sauce mixture every 10 minutes. Remove from oven and brush with any remaining soy sauce mixture. Let cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.

Tips:

  • Choose the Right Chicken Wings: Select fresh or thawed chicken wings with plump, unblemished skin. Smaller wings cook faster, while larger wings have more meat.
  • Properly Clean and Dry: Rinse the chicken wings thoroughly under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. This helps the marinade and seasonings adhere better.
  • Marinate for Flavor: Marinating the chicken wings in a flavorful mixture of spices, herbs, and liquids (such as buttermilk or yogurt) enhances their taste. Allow at least 30 minutes, but longer marinating times (up to overnight) result in deeper flavors.
  • Use a High-Heat Cooking Method: Baking the chicken wings at a high temperature (425°F or 220°C) helps create crispy skin and juicy meat. This method also reduces cooking time, ensuring that the wings don't dry out.
  • Toss in Sauce or Seasonings: After baking, toss the chicken wings in your favorite sauce (such as buffalo sauce, BBQ sauce, or teriyaki sauce) or a simple mixture of seasonings (such as salt, pepper, and garlic powder) for extra flavor.

Conclusion:

Bat Wings Baked Chicken Wings is a versatile and delicious appetizer or main course that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. With a crispy outer coating and tender, juicy meat, these wings are sure to be a hit at any gathering or party. Experiment with different marinades and sauce options to create a variety of flavors that suit your taste preferences. Whether you prefer spicy, tangy, or sweet, you can easily customize this recipe to make it your own. So, gather your ingredients, preheat your oven, and get ready to indulge in a flavorful and satisfying chicken wing experience!
