MUDDLED BASIL MARTINI

Muddled Basil Martini image

I've been searching for the perfect summer basil martini. I think I found it on the "B*tches on a Budget" website! Slight variation using agave nectar instead of simple syrup. I had to substitute ounces for "jiggers" as called for in the original recipe -- original verbage included in directions.

Crushed ice, and plenty of it, is key to this and other smashes. It's what, in pre-freezer days, made this cocktail style seem so very indulgent.

Tips:

  • For the best flavor, use fresh basil leaves. If you don't have fresh basil, you can substitute 1/4 teaspoon dried basil.
  • If you don't have a muddler, you can use the back of a spoon to crush the basil leaves.
  • If you like your martini sweeter, you can add more simple syrup. Start with 1/2 ounce and adjust to taste.
  • If you don't have simple syrup, you can make your own by dissolving 1/2 cup sugar in 1/2 cup boiling water. Let cool completely before using.
  • To make a virgin basil cucumber martini, omit the gin and vodka. You can also add a splash of club soda or tonic water to make it more refreshing.
  • Garnish your martini with a basil leaf or a cucumber slice for a finishing touch.

Conclusion:

The basil cucumber martini is a refreshing and flavorful cocktail that's perfect for any occasion. It's easy to make and can be customized to your liking. So next time you're looking for a new cocktail to try, give the basil cucumber martini a try. You won't be disappointed!
