Time 7m

Number Of Ingredients 8

4 tbsp self-raising flour
4 tbsp caster sugar
2 tbsp cocoa powder
1 medium egg
3 tbsp milk
3 tbsp vegetable oil or sunflower oil
a few drops of vanilla essence or other essence (orange or peppermint work well)
2 tbsp chocolate chips, nuts, or raisins etc (optional)

Steps:

  • Add 4 tbsp self-raising flour, 4 tbsp caster sugar and 2 tbsp cocoa powder to the largest mug you have (to stop it overflowing in the microwave) and mix.
  • Add 1 medium egg and mix in as much as you can, but don't worry if there's still dry mix left.
  • Add the 3 tbsp milk, 3 tbsp vegetable or sunflower oil and a few drops of vanilla essence and mix until smooth, before adding 2 tbsp chocolate chips, nuts, or raisins, if using, and mix again.
  • Centre your mug in the middle of the microwave oven and cook on High for 1½ -2 mins, or until it has stopped rising and is firm to the touch.

Tips:

  • Use the right mug: Choose a mug that is microwave-safe and holds at least 1 cup (250 ml) of liquid. A larger mug will result in a taller, less dense cake.
  • Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing the batter will make the cake tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Microwave the cake in short bursts: Start by microwaving the cake for 30 seconds, then check the cake. Continue microwaving in 15-second intervals until the cake is cooked through. Overcooking the cake will make it dry.
  • Let the cake cool for a minute before eating: The cake will continue to cook as it cools, so it's important to let it cool for a minute before eating. This will help prevent the cake from being too hot and gooey.

Conclusion:

Mug cakes are a quick and easy way to satisfy your sweet tooth. With a few simple ingredients and a microwave, you can have a delicious cake in minutes. Whether you're looking for a classic chocolate cake, a fluffy vanilla cake, or a decadent red velvet cake, there's a mug cake recipe out there for you. So next time you're craving a sweet treat, try one of these mug cake recipes. You won't be disappointed!
