BASIC BUTTERCREAM ICING

This is a recipe that was given in the packet from a workshop I took at the Wilton school. It is a very good recipe and isn't exactly like any of the other buttercream recipes I saw! Great for decoration or for icing (once it is thinned with a little milk/cream). The picture is of a cake with royal icing roses and 3 Tbs of Kahlua added to the buttercream.

Tips:

  • For a richer buttercream, use high-quality butter with a fat content of at least 80%.
  • Make sure the butter is softened to room temperature before creaming it with the sugar. This will help to create a smooth and creamy frosting.
  • If you are using a stand mixer, start on low speed and gradually increase the speed to medium-high. This will help to prevent the frosting from becoming too fluffy.
  • Beat the frosting for at least 2 minutes, or until it is light and fluffy. Overbeating can cause the frosting to become grainy.
  • If the frosting is too thick, add a little bit of milk or cream until it reaches the desired consistency.
  • If the frosting is too thin, add a little bit of powdered sugar until it reaches the desired consistency.
  • You can flavor the buttercream frosting with a variety of ingredients, such as vanilla extract, chocolate chips, or fruit puree.
  • Store the buttercream frosting in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Conclusion:

Buttercream frosting is a versatile and delicious frosting that can be used to decorate cakes, cupcakes, and other desserts. It is easy to make and can be customized to your own taste. With a few simple tips, you can create a perfect buttercream frosting that will make your desserts look and taste amazing.
