BARBIE DOLL BIRTHDAY CAKE

Barbie Doll Birthday Cake image

A toddler girl's dream come true! After looking all over the place for instructions, I finally put a few different construction ideas together. I bought a cheap barbie, undressed her, wrapped her legs in cling film and used her in the cake. After the cake had been cut, I unwrapped her from the cling film and dressed her and gave her to my daughter, who still talks about her doll's 'beautiful cake dress'! I used a 2-litre/4-pint oven-proof mixing/pudding Pyrex bowl and a 20cm round cake tin. Barbie's legs are long, hence the extra 20cm cake under the bowl-shaped one. Prep time includes decorating time.

Time 2h30m

Yield 15-25 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

635 g self-raising flour
510 g caster sugar
510 g butter (softened)
9 eggs
4 tablespoons milk
250 g butter (softened)
500 g icing sugar
1 -2 tablespoon hot water
fondant (optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 150 degrees celcius/300°F.
  • Wipe a little butter around the inside of the bowl and tin, then line with greaseproof/baking paper.
  • Sift the flour into a mixing bowl.
  • Add the sugar, butter, eggs and milk.
  • Mix until it looks pale and creamy, using electric mixer or wooden spoon.
  • Divide proportionately between the pudding bowl and the tin and smooth the tops.
  • Bake for approximately 1 1/2 hours (If you stick a skewer into the centre it should come out clean).
  • Remove from oven, turn them out and gently remove baking paper. Allow to cool completely.
  • Mix the icing ingredients well.
  • If desired, carefully slice both cakes in half, horizontally and fill the middle with icing. (Cover and save the rest of the icing until later).
  • Place upside-down pudding bowl cake on top of round cake, with icing between them.
  • Wrap in foil or cling film and place in freezer for 20 mins or fridge for an hour. (this will firm up the cake to allow you to cut the hole for Barbie's legs, and create less crumbs when icing the cake).
  • Use a long knife(eg bread knife) to cut a hole in the centre of the cake, long enough for Barbie's legs, up to just below her waist.
  • Wrap Barbie's legs in cling wrap up to her waist and insert her into the hole in the cake.
  • Colour and flavour the buttercream and/or fondant icing as desired.
  • Ice a thin layer of buttercream all over the cake. Place in fridge for 15 minutes.
  • Smooth another layer of buttercream OR roll out the fondant icing and drape around the cake, imitating the folds of a dress. If using buttercream, you can neaten it by dippng a knife in hot water and smoothing it over the icing.
  • Pipe buttercream or wrap a piece of fondant icing around Barbie's torso.
  • Embellish as you please!

2 pkg 1 pound each...pound cake mix
2 can(s) 16 oz. each......vanilla frosting
food coloring... you're choice
1 cardboard tube
1 barbie doll,... or a doll like barbie

Steps:

  • 1. Pre-heat oven to 350F. Butter and flour one 8-cup oven bowl, and a 10 oz, oven proof bowl. Prepare both cake mixes, according to the package directions together in one bowl. Pour 1 cup of batter intoa 10 cup bowl and remaining batter into measuring 8 cup bowl.
  • 2. Bake small cake 30-35 minutes, and the larger cake 1 hour and 15 minutes. Until centers are done. Cool on a rack 20 minutes. Remove , cool, wide side down., on racks.
  • 3. Spoon 1 cup of frosting, into a plastic food bag. Remove 1/2 cup of frosting and tint this dark purple. Transfer this to a clean plastic bag. Now tint remaining frosting in the first bag a lavender color. Trim wide tops of cakes to level.
  • 4. Spread trimed side of small cake with frosting. Bevel larger cake to create curve that ends where the cakes willl meet. Score circle onto top with a tube. Starting at edge of circle into ,the top with he tube. Starting at the edge of circle, bevel smal cake. Twist tube through cakes to the bottom. Mark tube just above cake. Remove tube. Discard cake core.
  • 5. Cut tube at the line. Wrap lower half of doll witrh foil. Wrap a ribbon under her arms down to her waist, any color ...you're choice. Insert doll to her hips into the tube. Spread cake with lavender frosting..or the color of your choice, to compliament her ribbon top. Decorate with frosting dots, Pearl dragrees, and eatable glitter.. Don't forget her ear lobes.....

Tips:

  • Choose the right cake recipe. The recipe you choose should be sturdy enough to support the weight of the Barbie doll and her accessories. A pound cake or chocolate cake recipe would be a good option.
  • Bake the cake in a doll-shaped pan. You can find doll-shaped cake pans online or at some kitchen supply stores. If you don't have a doll-shaped pan, you can also bake the cake in a regular cake pan and then use a sharp knife to carve it into the shape of a doll.
  • Let the cake cool completely before decorating it. This will help prevent the frosting from melting.
  • Use a sturdy frosting. A buttercream frosting or a ganache frosting would be a good option. Avoid using a frosting that is too soft, as it will not hold up well on the cake.
  • Add the Barbie doll and her accessories to the cake. You can use a toothpick to secure the Barbie doll to the cake. You can also use frosting to glue on her clothes and accessories.
  • Be creative! You can decorate the Barbie doll cake however you like. You can use sprinkles, candy, or even flowers to make the cake look extra special.

Conclusion:

A Barbie doll cake is a fun and unique way to celebrate a child's birthday or special occasion. With a little planning and effort, you can create a beautiful and delicious cake that will be the hit of the party.
