Time 10m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

3 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon sugar
3 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds
1 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup minced scallion
1 1/2 lbs lean ground beef
6 -8 hamburger buns with sesame seeds

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients except the hamburger buns.
  • Refrigerate 1 hour or longer to blend flavors.
  • Shape meat mixture into 6 to 8 patties.
  • Cook on grill or broil 5 to 10 minutes or until meat is done as desired, turning once.
  • Serve with toppings of your choice on toasted buns or on pita bread.

Tips:

  • Choose the right ground beef: Opt for a blend of 80% lean and 20% fat for juicy and flavorful burgers.
  • Season the beef simply: Use a combination of salt, pepper, and garlic powder for a classic taste. Avoid over-seasoning, as the toppings will also add flavor.
  • Form the patties gently: Handle the beef mixture gently to avoid compacting it. Loosely shape it into patties to ensure they stay tender during cooking.
  • Make a thumbprint in the center of each patty: This will help prevent the burgers from puffing up in the middle while cooking, resulting in evenly cooked patties.
  • Cook the burgers over medium heat: This allows the burgers to cook thoroughly without burning the outside.
  • Flip the burgers only once: Flipping the burgers too often can dry them out. Flip them just once, when the juices start to rise to the surface.
  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure doneness: Cook the burgers to your desired doneness, whether it's medium-rare, medium, or well-done. A meat thermometer will help you achieve the perfect internal temperature.
  • Top the burgers with your favorite toppings: Get creative with your toppings, from classic choices like cheese, lettuce, and tomato to more adventurous options like avocado, bacon, or caramelized onions.
