I love pasta but it is not always the healthiest thing to have for dinner. To make this one a little less guilty, I use turkey and add a carrot to the sauce. So tasty!

BAKED ZITI I
A lady I worked with brought this in one day, and it was a hit. Now it is the favorite of all my dinner guests. It's great for a covered dish dinner too. I have made this also without the meat, and it is well received.

A lower-calorie version of baked ziti that is delicious. You can certainly opt to use the full calorie cheese and ground beef instead of turkey, but really there is no need since it tastes just as good as the original!

Tips:
- Choose the Right Pasta: Use a short pasta like ziti, penne, or rigatoni to ensure the sauce coats the pasta evenly.
- Brown the Turkey Thoroughly: Browning the turkey adds depth of flavor to the dish. Don't overcrowd the pan; cook the turkey in batches if necessary.
- Make a Flavorful Sauce: Use a combination of tomato sauce, crushed tomatoes, and tomato paste for a rich and flavorful sauce. Add Italian seasoning, garlic, and onion for extra flavor.
- Don't Overcook the Pasta: Cook the pasta according to the package instructions until it's al dente (slightly firm to the bite).
- Layer the Ziti Properly: Start with a layer of sauce, then add a layer of pasta, followed by a layer of cheese. Repeat the layers until you've used up all the ingredients.
- Bake Until Golden Brown: Bake the ziti until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the top is golden brown. This usually takes about 20-25 minutes.
- Let It Rest Before Serving: Allow the ziti to rest for a few minutes before serving. This will help the flavors meld and make it easier to cut.
Conclusion:
Baked ziti with ground turkey is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for busy weeknights or casual gatherings. With its combination of flavorful sauce, tender pasta, and melted cheese, this dish is sure to be a hit with the whole family. Follow these tips for the best results and enjoy a satisfying and comforting meal.
