MARINATED QUESO FRESCO

Marinated Queso Fresco image

I simply could not get enough queso fresco while in Costa Rica this summer. Its similar to mozzarella in flavor, but firmer and very versatile. It is also called farmer's cheese and is available in most grocery stores. A great little snack or appetizer- try it with other Mexican-themed dishes!

Tips:

- To ensure the queso fresco bakes evenly, use a baking dish that is large enough to accommodate the cheese in a single layer. - If you don't have a baking dish, you can use a cast-iron skillet or even a heavy-bottomed saucepan. Just make sure that the pan is oven-safe. - To prevent the queso fresco from sticking to the pan, grease the bottom of the dish with butter or cooking spray. - Bake the queso fresco at a high temperature (400 degrees Fahrenheit) for a short amount of time (about 10 minutes). This will help to create a crispy outer layer while keeping the inside of the cheese soft and melty. - Serve the baked queso fresco immediately, while it is still hot and bubbly. You can garnish it with chopped cilantro, sliced green onions, or diced tomatoes. - The tomatillo sauce is a great complement to the baked queso fresco. It is tangy, slightly spicy, and has a fresh, herbaceous flavor. - To make the tomatillo sauce, simply blend together tomatillos, green chiles, onion, garlic, cilantro, and lime juice. You can adjust the amount of chili peppers you use depending on your desired level of spiciness. - You can also add other ingredients to the tomatillo sauce, such as diced tomatoes, corn, or black beans. - The baked queso fresco and tomatillo sauce can be served as an appetizer, main course, or side dish. They are also great for potlucks and parties.

Conclusion:

Baked queso fresco with tomatillo sauce is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for any occasion. The queso fresco is crispy on the outside and soft and melty on the inside, while the tomatillo sauce is tangy, slightly spicy, and refreshing.
