BAKED MASHED POTATOES WITH PARMESAN

Baked Mashed Potatoes With Parmesan image

The combination here of baked and mashed potatoes can be made in advance and reheated at serving time. A food mill or old-fashioned food ricer yields the best texture, but you can also mash the potatoes in any way you are accustomed. I like to use Idaho potatoes because they are less moist than many other types.

  • Preheat broiler.
  • Heat milk in a saucepan.
  • Add butter and nutmeg to milk. Stir with a wooden spatula until butter melts. Add milk gradually to the potatoes, stirring with a spatula. Add salt, if desired, and pepper.

Tips:

  • For a creamier texture, use russet potatoes, as they are higher in starch content.
  • Make sure to peel and cube the potatoes evenly so that they cook evenly.
  • Don't overcook the potatoes, as they will become mushy.
  • For a crispy topping, use a combination of Parmesan cheese and Panko breadcrumbs.
  • If you don't have Panko breadcrumbs, you can use regular breadcrumbs or crushed crackers.
  • Season the mashed potatoes generously with salt and pepper, as they can easily become bland.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment with different herbs and spices to flavor the mashed potatoes.
  • Baked Mashed Potatoes with Parmesan Cheese can be served as a side dish or as a main course.

Conclusion:

Baked Mashed Potatoes with Parmesan Cheese is a simple but delicious dish that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be customized to your liking. Whether you like your mashed potatoes creamy or crispy, cheesy or herby, there is a recipe out there for you.
