Provided by The Chunky Chef

Categories     Main Course

Time 4h20m

Number Of Ingredients 12

8 lb bone-in spiral sliced half ham
2 Tbsp butter, melted
3 Tbsp honey
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 tsp seasoned salt
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/4 tsp paprika
pinch of allspice

Steps:

  • Trim ham if needed, then place in slow cooker. Combine melted butter and honey, then massage over ham, getting in between the slices a little. Cover and cook on LOW 4-5 hours.
  • At the end of the cooking time, preheat broiler to HIGH, and line a roasting pan with heavy duty aluminum foil.
  • Combine sugar, seasoned salt, onion powder, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, ground ginger, ground cloves, paprika and allspice in a small bowl. Pat half of the sugar mixture over the top of the ham.
  • Broil for several minutes, until bubbly and caramelized, then remove from oven.
  • To a small saucepan, add remaining sugar mixture. Add 3 Tbsp of either water or ham juices from bottom of the slow cooker. A combination of water/ham juice and bourbon is a nice alternative! Stir, and heat to a boil. Boil for about a minute, then remove from heat.
  • Brush or pour glaze over the ham, then broil again for a minute or two (careful... don't let it burn!). Remove from oven and let ham rest for 5-10 minutes.
  • Serve warm or cold and enjoy!

Baked Ham with Brown Sugar-Honey Glaze image

Categories     main-dish

Time 3h25m

Yield 8 to 10 servings

Number Of Ingredients 3

1 10-pound bone-in smoked ham (with water added)
1 1/2 cups packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup clover honey

Steps:

  • Adjust the oven racks to accommodate a large roasting pan. Fit the pan with a shallow roasting rack. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Unwrap the ham and rinse it under cold water. Place it on the rack in the roasting pan. Cover with foil and bake 1 hour 40 minutes. Meanwhile, combine the brown sugar and honey in a saucepan and cook over medium heat until the mixture is smooth and the sugar has dissolved.
  • Pour the brown sugar glaze over the ham and continue roasting1 hour 40 minutes more, basting at least twice with the drippings in the roaster. (To adjust the total roasting time for a smaller or larger ham, calculate 20 minutes per pound.) Check for doneness by inserting a meat thermometer into a meaty spot (not into fat or touching the bone)-it should register 160 degrees F.
  • Let the ham stand 15 minutes before slicing to allow the juices to set. (You can make the ham up to 2 hours ahead; tent with foil and serve at room temperature.)

TANGY HONEY GLAZED HAM

Tangy Honey Glazed Ham image

I came up with the glaze for this ham using ingredients on hand and it's the best I've ever tasted. If you have any glaze left over, you can add it to the pan drippings with a little flour or cornstarch and make a nice sauce to accompany the meat. Use the bone and ham trimmings to make soup afterwards.

HONEY GLAZED HAM

Honey Glazed Ham image

This ham tastes very much like the famous honey baked ham but costs much less, and there's no need to fight the crowds at holiday time. You can even buy the ham presliced to make it easier and more like the original. It is very good. (I do this while preparing the rest of the meal in the kitchen so that I don't forget to baste!)

BAKED HAM WITH HONEY WALNUT GLAZE

Baked Ham With Honey Walnut Glaze image

It's the sweet and tender ham paired with the smoky, salty bacon and the toasted walnuts that makes this dish a winner. The flavors are sublime. While ham is traditionally a holiday dish, I like to make this dish for a family get together or just for dinner so I can eat the leftovers in sandwiches and omelets.

Provided by Fisher Nuts

Categories     Ham

Time 2h20m

Yield 14-16 , 14-16 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 (7-8 lb.) fully-cooked spiral sliced or bone-in ham
10 whole cloves
2 medium red onions, quartered
6 large garlic cloves
4 medium carrots, peeled and cut into 1-inch rounds
2 tablespoons canola oil
kosher salt
1 cup dry white wine
6 -7 strips (6 oz.) bacon, cut into small strips
3/4 cup clover honey, divided
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1 tablespoon smooth (Dijon) mustard
3/4 cup (3 oz.) finely chopped Fisher® Walnut Halves and Pieces, toasted

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • Prepare the ham: Place the ham on a flat surface, fat side up. "Stud" the surface with the cloves, leaving space between each. Pour 1/4 cup of the honey over the exterior.
  • Cook the ham: Place the ham in a roasting pan fitted with a rack. Drizzle the onions, garlic and carrots with the canola oil and scatter them on the bottom of the pan and pour wine over vegetables. Place the pan in the center of the oven and cook for 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours or until a thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the ham registers 155°F.
  • Cook the bacon and honey: Put the bacon in a medium skillet with 1/4 cup water and cook until the water evaporates, 5-8 minutes. Pour off all but 1 tablespoon of the rendered fat and add the remaining 1/2 cup honey and 2 tablespoons of the red wine vinegar. Simmer over medium heat until the honey thickens, 5-8 minutes. The honey will be very hot. Cool. Finely chop 3/4 cup of the walnuts. Stir the walnuts and mustard into the glaze to thicken the texture. Taste for seasoning.
  • Finish the dish: Pour the glaze on the exterior of the ham spreading to cover the surface of the ham. The glaze should help the nuts adhere to the ham. Transfer the ham and the cooked vegetables to a large serving platter.
  • Is a bone-in ham better? I like cooking meat on the bone more for better flavor and even cooking but the most important tip of all: buy what you like and make it how you like it!

Tips:

  • Choose the right ham: For the best results, choose a bone-in ham that is fully cooked and weighs between 8 and 10 pounds.
  • Preheat the oven: Always preheat your oven to the desired temperature before putting the ham in. This will help to ensure that the ham cooks evenly.
  • Cover the ham: Covering the ham with foil during baking will help to keep it moist and prevent it from drying out.
  • Baste the ham: Basting the ham with the honey-walnut glaze every 20 minutes will help to keep it moist and flavorful.
  • Use a meat thermometer: To ensure that the ham is cooked to perfection, use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature. The ham should be cooked to an internal temperature of 140 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Let the ham rest: After the ham is cooked, let it rest for 15-20 minutes before carving. This will help the juices to redistribute throughout the ham, making it more tender and flavorful.

Conclusion:

Baked ham with honey-walnut glaze is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for any special occasion. By following these tips, you can ensure that your ham turns out perfectly cooked, moist, and flavorful. Serve the ham with your favorite sides, such as roasted potatoes, green beans, and a salad, for a complete and satisfying meal.
