Tips:
- Choose the right ham. A good ham for baking is one that is fully cooked and bone-in. The bone helps to keep the ham moist during cooking. Aim for ham that's 8 to 10 pounds, which will serve 10 to 12 people.
- Score the ham. Scoring the ham helps the glaze to penetrate the meat and also helps to keep it from drying out. Use a sharp knife to make shallow cuts in the ham, about 1 inch apart.
- Make a flavorful glaze. The glaze is what gives the ham its delicious flavor. You can use a store-bought glaze or make your own. Some popular glaze ingredients include brown sugar, honey, mustard, pineapple juice, and cloves.
- Bake the ham properly. The ham should be baked at a low temperature (325 degrees Fahrenheit) for several hours. This allows the ham to cook slowly and evenly. Use a meat thermometer to ensure that the ham is cooked to an internal temperature of 140 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Let the ham rest. Once the ham is cooked, let it rest for 15 to 20 minutes before carving. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, making it more tender and flavorful.
Conclusion:
Baked glazed ham with raisins is a classic holiday dish that is always a crowd-pleaser. With its sweet and savory flavor, tender texture, and beautiful presentation, it's sure to be the star of your next special occasion meal.
