Tips:

  • Choose the right potatoes: Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes are best for mashed potatoes because they are starchy and fluffy.
  • Boil the potatoes until they are very soft: This will make them easier to mash and will help them absorb more of the other ingredients.
  • Use a potato ricer or food mill to get a smooth, lump-free texture: This is the best way to achieve creamy mashed potatoes.
  • Add the garlic and cheese while the potatoes are still hot: This will help the flavors meld together.
  • Season the mashed potatoes to taste: Salt, pepper, and garlic powder are all good choices.
  • Top the mashed potatoes with additional cheese and bake until melted and bubbly: This will give them a delicious golden brown crust.
  • Serve the mashed potatoes immediately: Mashed potatoes are best when they are hot and fresh.
