BAKED FRITTATA

Baked Frittata image

After a long night crossing The Sea of Cortez I came up with this version of a frittata. Mix together and pop in the oven, what could be easier! Bacon or ham could be substituted for the sausage.

Provided by Galley Wench

Categories     Breakfast

Time 40m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 medium potatoes, baked, peeled and sliced
6 large eggs, beaten
1/2 lb sausage, cooked and sliced (smoked or ground)
1/4 cup chopped green onion
1/4 cup chopped sweet red pepper
1/2 cup monterey jack cheese
1/2 cup cheddar cheese
1/4 cup parmesan cheese
nonstick cooking spray

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Spray or grease an 8 x 8 casserole.
  • Place the potatoe slices on the bottom.
  • Sprinkle 1/2 the cheese over protatoes.
  • Mix together the eggs, sausage and vegetables; pour over the potatoes.
  • Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until set.

Tips:

  • Use a good quality sausage: The sausage is the star of this dish, so make sure to use a good quality one. Look for a sausage that is made with fresh, flavorful meat and has a nice balance of spices.
  • Don't overcook the sausage: Overcooked sausage will be tough and dry. Cook it just until it is cooked through, about 5-7 minutes per side.
  • Use a variety of cheeses: A blend of cheeses will give your frittata a more complex flavor. I like to use a combination of cheddar, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheeses.
  • Don't overmix the eggs: Overmixing the eggs will make the frittata tough. Just whisk them until they are combined.
  • Cook the frittata over low heat: Cooking the frittata over low heat will help it to cook evenly and prevent it from burning.
  • Let the frittata cool slightly before serving: This will help it to hold its shape when you cut it.

Conclusion:

Baked frittata with sausage and cheese is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It is also a great way to use up leftover sausage. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can have a delicious and satisfying meal that the whole family will enjoy.
