BAKED CHICKEN GERMAN STYLE

Baked Chicken German Style image

A quick and easy way to prepare a nice chicken casserole. Not quite sure why it's called German style since the cheese used is Italian, but that's the name it had when I found it for a request on the recipe request board.

Number Of Ingredients 12

1/2 c butter
1/2 c flour
2 c chicken broth
1.5 c milk
2 tsp lemon juice
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp nutmeg
8 oz egg noodles, cooked and drained
3 c chicken, cooked and chopped
2/3 c parmesan cheese, grated
2 tsp paprika

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350.
  • 2. Melt butter in large saucepan over medium low heat.
  • 3. Whisk in flour and stir 3 minutes.
  • 4. Gradually whisk in broth and milk.
  • 5. Reduce heat, simmering until thick, about 10 minutes.
  • 6. Blend in lemon juice and seasonings.
  • 7. Combine cooked noodles and half the sauce, tossing gently to blend.
  • 8. Place in the bottom of a buttered 2-quart casserole.
  • 9. Top with chicken and remaining sauce.
  • 10. Combine parmesan cheese and paprika, sprinkle over casserole.
  • 11. Bake until bubbling and golden brown, about 30 minutes.
  • 12. Serve hot.

Tips:

  • Use a whole chicken: This will give you the most flavorful and moist chicken. If you don't have a whole chicken, you can use chicken breasts or thighs, but the cooking time will be shorter.
  • Season the chicken well: Use a combination of salt, pepper, and your favorite herbs and spices. You can also add a little bit of lemon zest or garlic powder for extra flavor.
  • Sear the chicken before baking: This will help to brown the chicken and give it a crispy skin. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the chicken. Sear for 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown.
  • Use a flavorful liquid: The liquid you add to the baking dish will help to keep the chicken moist and flavorful. You can use chicken broth, white wine, or even apple cider.
  • Roast the chicken at a moderate temperature: This will help to prevent the chicken from drying out. Roast the chicken at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 1 hour, or until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Let the chicken rest before serving: This will allow the juices to redistribute throughout the chicken, resulting in a more tender and flavorful bird.

Conclusion:

Baked chicken German style is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for any occasion. With its crispy skin, tender meat, and flavorful sauce, this chicken will surely be a hit with your family and friends. So next time you're looking for a simple and satisfying meal, give this recipe a try!
