Categories     Chicken

Time 1h25m

Yield 12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 12

6 large chicken breasts (12 pieces)
2 cups sour cream
1/4 cup lemon juice
4 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
4 teaspoons celery salt
2 teaspoons paprika
4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
1 3/4 cups breadcrumbs

Steps:

  • Remove skin from chicken breasts and wipe well with damp paper towels.
  • In a large bowl, combine sour cream, lemon juice, worcestershire sauce, celery salt, paprika, garlic, salt and pepper.
  • Add chicken to sour cream mixture, coating each piece well.
  • Refrigerate, covered, overnight.
  • Remove chicken from sour cream mixture and coat evenly with bread crumbs.
  • Arrange in single layer in large, shallow baking pan.
  • Melt butter and shortening and spoon half over chicken.
  • Bake at 350*, uncovered for 45 minutes.
  • Spoon rest of butter mixture over chicken.
  • Bake 10-15 minutes longer, or until chicken is tender and nicely browned.

Tips:

  • To ensure the chicken breasts cook evenly, pound them to an even thickness before baking. You can use a meat mallet or a rolling pin for this.
  • For a crispy crust, dredge the chicken breasts in a mixture of flour, salt, and pepper before browning them in a skillet. You can also use a breadcrumb coating for a crunchier texture.
  • Don't overcrowd the baking dish. Make sure there is enough space between the chicken breasts so that they can cook evenly.
  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure the chicken breasts are cooked to an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit. This will help prevent them from drying out.
  • Let the chicken breasts rest for a few minutes before serving. This will allow the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, making it more tender and flavorful.

Conclusion:

Baked chicken breasts are a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed for lunch or dinner. They can be served with a variety of sides, such as roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, or rice. With just a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a delicious and satisfying meal that the whole family will enjoy.
