Yield 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 frozen puff pastry sheets, such as Pepperidge Farm
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
4 garlic cloves, coarsely chopped
1 (16 ounce) round brie cheese or 1 (16 ounce) wedge brie cheese
3 -4 tablespoons honey

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Lightly grease a baking dish that is about 2 inches wider than the brie.
  • Thaw pastry sheets until pliable; unfold and set aside.
  • Melt butter in small pan over medium heat. Add garlic, cook about 1 minute (do not brown); set aside.
  • Drape one pastry sheet in the prepared baking dish, letting the edges hang over the sides and fitting the pastry into the bottom. Place the brie on the pastry, spoon the garlic butter on top. Fold up the corners of the pastry so they rest on top of the brie. Cover with the second pastry sheet, tucking its corners around the cheese. (The pastry will expand to fill the dish when baked.).
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, until golden and slightly puffy.
  • [The brie can be removed to a serving platter or served in the baking dish.].
  • Drizzle the honey over the top and serve immediately or at room temperature.

BAKED BRIE WITH LAVENDER HONEY AND HERBS

Baked Brie with Lavender Honey and Herbs image

Categories     appetizer

Time 30m

Yield 16 servings

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 cup honey
2 tablespoons lavender flowers
1 baguette
1 garlic clove, chopped
1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped
1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 tablespoons store-bought or homemade Lavender Honey
One 16-ounce wheel brie cheese, chilled in a freezer for 15 minutes
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

  • For the Lavender Honey (Makes 1 cup):
  • Heat the honey and lavender flowers in a small saucepan over high heat until boiling, 4 to 5 minutes. Allow the mixture to cool. Once cool, strain the mixture through a sieve, filtering out the lavender flowers.
  • For the baked brie:
  • Preheat the broiler.
  • Slice the baguette diagonally in 1/4-inch-thick slices and place on a broiler pan. Broil until toasted, 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  • Chop the garlic, rosemary and thyme and place in a small bowl. Add the oil and lavender honey and stir to combine.
  • Put the chilled brie on a sheet pan and score the top with a paring knife, as if you are etching it into slices. This will let the oil and herbs soak into the cracks and give the cheese room to melt and expand.
  • Spread the herb and honey mixture and spread across the top of the brie. Season with salt and pepper and bake until it starts to melt, 10 minutes.
  • Serve with the toasted baguette slices.

Tips:

  • Choose a ripe brie. A ripe brie will have a soft, creamy texture and a slightly runny center. Avoid bries that are too hard or too soft.
  • Use a good quality honey. The honey you use will make a big difference in the flavor of the dish. Choose a honey that is flavorful and has a nice aroma.
  • Don't overbake the brie. The brie should be baked just until it is melted and gooey. If you overbake it, it will become dry and crumbly.
  • Serve the brie immediately. Baked brie is best served immediately, while it is still warm and melted. You can serve it with crackers, bread, or fruit.

Conclusion:

Baked brie is a delicious and easy appetizer that is perfect for any occasion. It is a classic dish that is always a crowd-pleaser. With its creamy texture, sweet honey glaze, and flaky crust, baked brie is sure to be a hit at your next party or gathering.
