Sweet Brown Sugar BBQ Meatballs image

So easy and SO delicious, these sticky glazed meatballs are sweet, savory and just a little spicy. They have a rich, deep flavor thanks to brown sugar and your favorite BBQ sauce.

Provided by The Food in My Beard

Categories     Appetizer

Time 30m

Yield 30

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 lb ground beef
1/2 lb ground pork
1/2 cup Progresso™ Panko Italian style crispy bread crumbs
1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
1 egg
2 cloves garlic, grated
Salt and pepper
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup barbecue sauce
2 teaspoons chile flakes (or to taste)
Chopped chives (for garnish)

Steps:

  • Mix all of the meatball ingredients together and form your meatballs.
  • Heat a large frying pan with a little oil and gently, one by one, add in the meatballs.
  • After they cook for about 4 minutes, flip the meatballs and cook an additional 4 minutes. Once they're cooked on the outside, they should be a little less delicate. Making sure none are stuck to the bottom, start tossing them in the pan a little more to cook them evenly. Drain most of the fat, leaving a few tablespoons' worth in the pan.
  • Add 2 tablespoons of water to deglaze the pan, scraping up any stuck-on pieces. Add the brown sugar, adding a little more water if the pan looks too dry.
  • The sauce should start to bubble and look like dark caramel.
  • Remove from heat and add in the barbecue sauce. Stir well.
  • Remove from heat and add in the barbecue sauce. Stir well.

Tips:

  • Choose the right type of ground beef. An 80/20 blend of ground beef is ideal for making meatballs, as it has just enough fat to keep them moist and juicy.
  • Season the meatballs well. A combination of garlic, onion, parsley, oregano, and basil is a classic flavor combination for meatballs, but you can also add other spices and herbs to taste.
  • Don't overmix the meatball mixture. Overmixing will make the meatballs tough.
  • Roll the meatballs into uniform sizes. This will help them cook evenly.
  • Brown the meatballs in a skillet before baking them. This will help them develop a nice crust and keep them from drying out.
  • Use a good quality barbecue sauce. The sauce is what really makes these meatballs special, so don't skimp on it.
  • Bake the meatballs until they are cooked through. The internal temperature of the meatballs should reach 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Serve the meatballs hot with your favorite sides.

Conclusion:

These baked barbecued glazed meatballs are a delicious and easy appetizer or main course. They are perfect for parties or potlucks, and they are sure to be a hit with everyone who tries them.
