BAKED APPLE WITH CRISP TOPPING
Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Cut each apple in half along its equator. Using a melon baller, cut out each side of the core, creating a rounded hole. Rub exposed apple flesh with lemon juice. Place 1 tablespoon of jam into each hole. For the topping: in a small bowl mix together flour, butter, brown sugar, oats, cinnamon and salt. Press this mixture on the top of each apple, covering jam. Place in a baking dish filled with about a 1/4-inch of water. Bake until top is golden brown and apple is tender, about 35 to 40 minutes.

Tips:
- Choose the right apples: Use firm, tart apples that hold their shape when baked, such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Braeburn.
- Slice the apples thinly: This will help them cook evenly and become tender.
- Don't overmix the topping: A few lumps are okay - they'll add texture to the crust.
- Bake the crumble until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling: This usually takes about 30-35 minutes.
- Let the crumble cool for a few minutes before serving: This will help the topping set and the apples firm up.
Conclusion:
Baked apple crumble is a classic dessert that is easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser. With its sweet and tart apples, crunchy oat topping, and warm spices, it's the perfect comfort food for any occasion. Whether you're serving it for breakfast, dessert, or a snack, this delicious crumble is sure to be a hit.
