For those of you who have ever had a Baked Alaska dessert, you know the joy of cutting through the meringue to find ice cream. WELL, no ice cream here...but still the surprise of finding meat under the potatoes and cheese. Not sure where I got this recipe, but we eat it quite a bit.

Time 1h

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 pkg brown gravy mix
1 1/2 lb ground beef
2 tsp minced onion
1/4 tsp pepper
1 tsp dry chives
4 servings instant mashed potatoes or leftover real potatoes
1/2 c cheddar cheese, shredded

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix gravy mix, ground beef, onion, and pepper in a large bowl. Shape into a loaf and place in a loaf pan.
  • 2. Stir chives into mashed potatoes and spread over the top of the meatloaf.
  • 3. Bake 55 minutes or until cooked through. Sprinkle on the cheese and bake for an additional 2 minutes or until cheese melts.

Tips:

  • Choose the right meatloaf recipe. The best meatloaf for Baked Alaska is one that is moist and flavorful, and that holds together well when sliced. A recipe that uses a mixture of ground beef and pork is a good option, as the pork adds flavor and moisture.
  • Make sure the meatloaf is cooked through before assembling the Baked Alaska. Use a meat thermometer to ensure that the meatloaf has reached an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Let the meatloaf cool completely before assembling the Baked Alaska. This will help to prevent the ice cream from melting too quickly.
  • Use a high-quality ice cream for the Baked Alaska. The ice cream should be firm enough to hold its shape when scooped, but not so hard that it is difficult to eat.
  • Spread the ice cream evenly over the meatloaf. This will help to ensure that the Baked Alaska cooks evenly.
  • Bake the Baked Alaska at a high temperature for a short period of time. This will help to brown the meringue and prevent the ice cream from melting.
  • Let the Baked Alaska cool for a few minutes before serving. This will help to prevent the ice cream from melting too quickly.

Conclusion:

Baked Alaska meatloaf is a fun and festive dish that is perfect for a special occasion. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. With a little planning, you can create a Baked Alaska meatloaf that is sure to impress your guests.
