Sweet Chicken Bacon Wraps (Paula Deen) image

Hey you Paula Deen fans, she has a new magazine, "Cooking with Paula Deen"--this recipe is from the premier issue. It was so yummy looking, I couldn't wait to try it. I added another 15 minutes to the cooking time suggested (30-35 minutes) and It was just right, but oven temperatures vary, so check on it during the last few minutes of cooking time. I'm also going to add a few dashes of cayenne pepper next time for something hot and sweet!

Provided by june

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 lb thin-sliced bacon, cut crosswise into thirds
1 (10 oz) pkg braided twist pretzel sticks
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 tbsp chili powder

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil. Place a cooling rack inside of foil-lined pan; lightly grease rack. Wrap 1 piece of bacon around each pretzel stick. In a shallow dish, combine brown sugar and chili powder. Roll each wrapped pretzel in sugar mixture to coat. Place on prepared rack. Bake 20 minutes, turning once or until bacon is crispy. Remove from rack, and let cool. Note: Pretzels can be made ahead and frozen up to 1 month. To reheat; Place frozen pretzels on a rimmed baking sheet. Cover lightly with aluminum foil. Bake at 350 degrees 10 to 15 minutes, or until reheated. Watch carefully as bacon will burn.

Tips:

  • Choose the right pretzels. Soft pretzels are the best choice for this recipe, as they will hold up well to being wrapped in bacon and baked. You can use either store-bought or homemade pretzels.
  • Use a good quality bacon. Thick-cut bacon will give you the best results, as it will provide more flavor and will hold up better to baking.
  • Don't overcook the bacon. Bacon is best when it is cooked until it is just crisp. Overcooked bacon will be tough and chewy.
  • Use a variety of dipping sauces. Bacon-wrapped pretzels are delicious served with a variety of dipping sauces, such as honey mustard, ranch dressing, or barbecue sauce.

Conclusion:

Bacon-wrapped pretzels are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer that is perfect for any occasion. They are sure to be a hit with your friends and family.
