This was one of our favorite foods...besides, hot dogs with catsup, and always cold cereal! I have heard that now a days people add a slice...

BACON CHEESE & TOMATO - BROILED OPEN FACE SANDWICH

Bacon Cheese & Tomato - Broiled Open Face Sandwich image

One of my favorites. I have two rules for this sandwich. Always use Pepperidge Farm Original White Bread and make two per person as one is never enough.

Categories     Lunch/Snacks

Time 5m

Yield 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

2 slices pepperidge farm original white bread
2 slices American cheese
1 tomatoes, cut in thin slices
3 slices bacon

Steps:

  • Pre-heat broiler.
  • Place bread on a broiler safe pan. Top each slice of bread with a slice of cheese then a slice of tomato. Depending on how big your tomato slice is you may want to put on two but keep it a single layer of tomato. Cut each slice of bacon into 2 pieces. Then lay 3 of the pieces on each sandwich. Broil until bacon is crisp and cheese melted. Bread and cheese may get a little burnt. That makes it better!
  • Note: Originally I put raw bacon on the sandwich and cooked it all the way under the broiler. Now I cut the strips in half and partiality cook in micro-wave and then put on sandwich and broil to finish cooking.

ORIGINAL HOT BROWN

Original Hot Brown image

This recipe originally came from the Brown Hotel in Louisville, KY. I have altered it based on how I have had it served in restaurants in Louisville. This is a good way to use leftover turkey from Thanksgiving and my husband looks forward to it every year.

Categories     Meat and Poultry Recipes     Turkey

Time 35m

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 12

½ cup butter
½ cup all-purpose flour
3 cups milk
6 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
1 egg, beaten
2 tablespoons heavy cream
salt and pepper to taste
2 pounds sliced roasted turkey
1 tomato, thinly sliced
8 slices white bread, toasted
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
8 slices crispy bacon

Steps:

  • Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in flour with a whisk or fork, and continue to cook and stir until it begins to brown slightly. Gradually whisk in the milk so that no lumps form, then bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Mix in 6 tablespoons of Parmesan cheese and then stir in the beaten egg to thicken. Do not allow the sauce to boil once the egg has been mixed in. Remove from the heat and stir in the cream.
  • Preheat the oven's broiler. For each hot brown, place two slices of toast into the bottom of an individual sized casserole dish. Cover with a liberal amount of roasted turkey and tomato slices. Spoon sauce over the top of each one and sprinkle with some of the remaining Parmesan cheese.
  • Place the dishes under the broiler and cook until the top is speckled brown, about 5 minutes. Remove from the broiler and arrange two slices of bacon in a cross shape on top of each sandwich. Serve immediately.

Categories     Pork

Time 8m

Yield 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 slice bread, toasted very lightly
3 slices cheese (your choice)
bacon, broke into pieces
sliced tomatoes

Steps:

  • Toast bread.
  • Place bacon on top.
  • Then tomatoes.
  • Now cheese.
  • Toast in toaster oven or microwave.
  • You may put the ingredients on differently after you get the hang of them-- darn I don't have any bacon!

Tips:

  • Choose high-quality ingredients: Use ripe tomatoes, fresh herbs, and flavorful cheese for the best results.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: Cook the bacon in batches if necessary to avoid steaming.
  • Cook the bacon until it's crispy: This will give the sandwich a nice crunch.
  • Use a sturdy bread: A thick slice of sourdough or French bread will hold up well under the toppings.
  • Don't skimp on the cheese: Use a generous amount of cheese for a gooey, melted topping.
  • Broil the sandwich until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown: Keep an eye on the sandwich so it doesn't burn.
  • Serve the sandwich immediately: This is when it's at its best.
