BACON BROWN SUGAR BAKED BEANS
My husband used to ask for baked beans every day when we first married. I made them this way to save time. I made them every day for a year, thinking he would get sick and tired of them & not ask for them all the time. After 24 years of marriage, this is still one of his favorite dishes.

Steps:
- Drain the beans (do NOT rinse). (If you are baking the beans in the oven, don't drain as much-or not at all.).
- Mix in all other ingredients except bacon.
- If you're in a hurry, microwave for 2 minutes & skip the bacon. (This is my preferred method.).
- Stir and serve.
- Otherwise, put bacon on top and bake in a 350 degree F oven for 45 minutes.
- Note: all amounts are approximate. Adjust to your taste.

- Soak the beans overnight: This will help them cook more evenly and reduce the cooking time.
- Use a variety of beans: This will give your baked beans a more complex flavor and texture.
- Don't skimp on the bacon: The bacon adds a lot of flavor to the beans, so don't be afraid to use a few extra slices.
- Use brown sugar instead of white sugar: The brown sugar will give the beans a richer, more molasses-like flavor.
- Add some spices: A little bit of smoked paprika, chili powder, or cumin can really kick up the flavor of the beans.
- Serve the beans with cornbread or mashed potatoes: This is a classic combination that is always a hit.
- If you don't have time to soak the beans overnight, you can quick-soak them by boiling them for 2 minutes and then letting them sit for 1 hour.
- If you don't have any bacon, you can use ham or sausage instead.
- You can also add other vegetables to the beans, such as onions, peppers, or corn.
- If you like your beans a little bit spicy, you can add a pinch of cayenne pepper or chili flakes.
- The beans can be made ahead of time and reheated when you're ready to serve them.
