AWESOME SLOW COOKER POT ROAST PLUS EXTRAS

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast Plus Extras image

This simple pot roast makes its own gravy in the slow cooker. As a single parent to girls, I am always trying to get the food groups into my abbreviated meals. I threw in potatoes, carrots, yellow squash, and zucchini to add to the original base recipe. They love stew, so this leads them in that direction, but is still a roast. It was a hit. I hope you enjoy it!

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of beef: Chuck roast, rump roast, and brisket are all good choices for pot roast. These cuts are tough, but they become tender and flavorful when cooked slowly.
  • Brown the meat before cooking: Browning the meat adds flavor and helps to keep it from drying out. You can brown the meat in a skillet over medium-high heat, or you can use the browning function on your slow cooker.
  • Add vegetables to the pot: Vegetables add flavor and nutrition to pot roast. Good choices include carrots, potatoes, onions, celery, and parsnips. You can also add herbs and spices, such as garlic, thyme, rosemary, and bay leaves.
  • Use a flavorful liquid: The liquid you use to cook the pot roast will add flavor to the dish. Good choices include beef broth, water, red wine, or even beer. You can also add a cup of coffee to the pot roast for a rich, dark flavor.
  • Cook the pot roast on low for 8-10 hours: This will give the meat time to become tender and flavorful. If you are short on time, you can cook the pot roast on high for 4-6 hours, but the meat will not be as tender.
  • Let the pot roast rest before serving: Once the pot roast is cooked, let it rest for 10-15 minutes before serving. This will allow the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, making it more tender and flavorful.

Conclusion:

Pot roast is a classic comfort food that is easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser. By following these tips, you can make a delicious and flavorful pot roast that your family and friends will love. So next time you're looking for an easy and hearty meal, give pot roast a try!
