I found this cake in an old Church Cookbook. It taste like an enticing concoction somewhere between a fruitcake and a chocolate chip cookie. I only made it once but it was very good.I hope you like it.!!!!!!!!!

BISHOP'S CAKE

Pound cake good for gifts. Recipe by Mrs. James H. Huguet, River Roads rEcipes p 176. This is an old fashioned pound cake. As a variation I sprinkle crushed blanched almonds over the top of the cake right before putting it into the oven to bake.

AUNT IDA'S PASSOVER SPONGE CAKE

Aunt Ida's Passover Sponge Cake image

Credit is given to Sandra Levine for her Aunt Ida's Sponge Cake. I came across this recipe that was posted on another site in March 2002 and it received great reviews. This cake is said to be good enough to be enjoyed all year long and I can hardly wait to bake it for seder #1. Now it can be said - since I made this cake for the 1st seder, I would not hesitate to make it again. The cake had a great light texture and tasted great; it was MOIST, it rose up quite high and everyone raved about it. Next time I make this, I will cut out and add a piece of parchment paper on the bottom of the pan, since it did stick ever so slightly. And also very important if you are making an additional 8" or 9" cake, only bake it for 25-30 minutes.

Tips:

  • Mise en Place: Before you start baking, make sure you have all the ingredients and equipment you need. This will help you stay organized and avoid any surprises.
  • Use fresh ingredients: Fresh ingredients will give your cake the best flavor and texture. If you can, use organic or locally-sourced ingredients.
  • Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing the batter can make your cake tough and dense. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Bake the cake at the right temperature: The oven temperature is critical for getting a perfectly baked cake. Make sure your oven is preheated to the correct temperature before you put the cake in.
  • Don't open the oven door during baking: Opening the oven door during baking can cause the cake to fall. Resist the temptation to peek!
  • Let the cake cool completely before frosting: This will help the frosting to set properly and prevent it from melting.

Conclusion:

Aunt Isabel's Bishop's Cake is a classic Southern dessert that is perfect for any occasion. With its moist and flavorful cake, creamy frosting, and crunchy pecans, this cake is sure to be a hit. Whether you're a seasoned baker or just starting out, I encourage you to give this recipe a try. You won't be disappointed!
